Colin Farrell To Join Miami Vice?

ferrall5.jpgIt is well documented on The Movie Blog that I am a Big Fan of Colin Farrell, so the newest rumours about him hooking up with Jamie Foxx for the new Miami Vice movie have me really excited! I’ve been afraid that a Miami Vice movie would go down the road of “Zany slapstick comedy re-make” like Starsky and Hutch did (although I didn’t mind Starsky and Hutch) instead of a more serious and slightly dark cop film. With Farrell’s name even to be mentioned as a possibility seems to suggest that my fears can be put to rest. Personally, I think he’d make a terrific Crockett.

  1. Listen, as Mv’s biggest fan, I must say the original Crockett and Tubbs MUST be in the movies as main characters of some sort.

Allen Payne is a definite plus for this movie. Farel will have to do something big with his lid if he wants to make some waves, otherwise, he looks lame to play the part.

    Gotta have Olmos, and Switek.

Gina and Trudy are possibilities but I dunno yet. (if Gina is gonna get replaced, she better have nice big boobies like the original)

Gotta have heavy exotics perhaps in the ferrari line.

Also need some slick fashion (hi fashion) not street fashion going on too for Crocket and Tubbs.

Micheal Mann…well he certainly would add to the salad as well.

The plot has gotta have a twist and the word “PAL” has to be in Crockets vocabulary.

This movie cannot be a comedy, like Starsky and Hutch…what a FRICKIN HELL CRAP B.S. movie that was. If it wasn’t for the car, it would have been a total donkey flop.

This movie perhaps should be centered around mob activity, seeing as thats whats in and Sopranos banked in on that baby and came out large.

To the producers: email me and I will gladly advise.

  2. hey all,i’m lisa smith one of the xtra’s in the miami vice movie nd i know so far that it is a pleasure to work with all the miami vice crew.foxx and ferrel are the best ever.they are just real people doing real things.keep it up you two and dont care what people says you are still the best

  3. Hi all,
I just stumbled across this site, just wanted to add my two cents.
I was a big fan of the original Miami Vice TV series myself.
I am a stunt performer, and I am having the great honor and pleasure of stunt doubling the very talented Colin Farrel on this Miami Vice production as well as working with the “MAN” Michael Mann and award wining Jamie Foxx.
I read some of the concerns and comments on this and other sites.
to all the negative comments regarding the the talent that has been cast! C’mon people you have Michael Mann in the drivers seat Colin and Jamie ridding shotgun thats a boat load of great talent, what more needs to be said this going to be one those films that you have to see at the box office as apposed to waiting until it comes out on video.
I would have the same opinion even if I was not part of this production!
    Eric

  4. Hey you fellas. Guess what I’ve got on the latest scoop on “Vice”.
Not the upcoming feature-length film next year starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx as Crockett & Tubbs, but Hollywood North (Vancouver, BC) legitimate film industry insider source just informed a local Canadian producer and close friend of mine that Michael Mann is also in talks with Universal Pictures and NBC-TV to reprise the hit TV cop show as a weekly series in its original 1980’s time slot on Fridays at 10 pm.

And here’s the juicy bit…Mann is also in private discussions with Matthew MacConaughey (“Sahara”) to play Crockett AND Terrence Dashon Howard (“Crash”) to play Tubbs. Both actors’ agents are in close to final contract talks, and production is to begin this coming January after the theatrical film version, slated for a 2006 release, wraps up this fall / winter.

Mann I’m so excited I can’t wait for both the film version and the reprised TV version!!!!!!!

    Cheers, Al

  5. I love Colin Farrell, I find hime to be a great actor!!! I think he is too good to do Miami Vice…but who am I to say? I am tierd of all the remakes of old tv shows!! Jeez!!! Can’t Hollywood come up with any new original ideas?! Or are they worried that something creative won’t sell in a country where the minds are so small!! And as you know, it all comes down to the almighty dollar. I suppose Colin isn’t opposed to making a few bucks as well!!!HUMPH!!

  6. i dont know about collin farrel but i do agree with the jamie foxx. and i also agree with the comment, without michael mann, it would not be miami vice.
how about hugh jackman or sean penn? i just think collin farrel isnt rough enough, and without the stubbles he would just be along the levels of justin timberlake, for teens =(

  7. Dissapointed with the new cast. It would be a way cooler movie if Micheal Mann picked up with the original cast. An older, rougher, Don Johnson and a slicker Philip Micheal. New toys, more action, cool cars, wild girls.

  8. Yes indeed. Colin Farrell is shooting Miami Vice. I know this first hand because I live in Miami, and had the VERY NICE PLEASURE of meeting Mr. Farrell this past weekend. (by the way girls he looks even better off camera)I work in a small retail toy store in South Miami, and Thursday night he came in with a friend and his daughter. He is indeed shooting the movie along side Jamie Foxx.
Even though I like the original Miami Vice, I think a remake would be cool. Look how Starsky and Hutch turned out. I’m looking forward to the release, especially so I can get the movie poster to frame with my new autograph… :)

  9. As a former vice cop and the original Miami vice fan; I only ask that Ed Olmos be retained as Lt. Castillo and that Allen Payne be considered as Rico. With all due respect to the incomparable Jamie Foxx,He’s just a tad too old to play Tubbs
and lacks Phillip Michael’s mystique. Yeah,I said it.

  11. I agree with the Josh Holloway suggestion instead of Colin Farrell.

another candidate could have been Thomas Jane from “The Punisher” film.

as I also agree there are only 1 Crockett and Tubbs, Keep Miami Vice, just 2 new characters to explore would be better as well.

  12. William Shatner will always be Captain Kirk and Leonard Nimoy will always be Spock. Ditto Don Johnson as Crockett and PMT as Tubbs.

So if Michael Mann is smart, he does what the Star Trek franchise did: He keeps his Enterprise (Miami) and changes the characters. If the movie is done right, like the original show was, it won’t matter if its Crockett and Tubbs or Smith and Jones.

  13. I don’t think J. Fizzle should play Tubbs. Tubbs is a smooth player and Foxx doesn’t fit that mode. Instead, I suggest Allen Payne, Shemar Moore or Hill Harper.

  14. Josh Holloway of Lost is cut right out of the Don Johnson mold. I had to check to see if he was Don Johnson’s son. He is as perfect a Crockett as Johnson was.

  15. PLEASE…SIGN DON JOHNSON.AND PHILLIP M. THOMAS IN THE ROLES….ALSO JAN HAMMER AND OF COURSE MICHAEL MANN…PLEASE DON’T ALLOW THIS MOVIE TO BE CAMPY OR A COMEDY..GIVE US REAL VICE..AND DON JOHNSON CAN FILL THAT ROLE…..GET WITH IT AND FORGET THESE OTHER STARS FOR THE ONE AND ONLY…MIAMI VICE…

  16. November 10, 2004

I think a Miami Vice movie is a good idea but in my opinion, I think Sonny Crockett should be played by Don Johnson’s son Jessie even though he is a little too young but I think he would be just right and for Rico Tubbs, I like Jamie Fox and all but I don’t think he would be right for the role Philip Michael Thomas made famous.

  17. Hi all!
I’m very excited for the news about MV..My great hope is that the remake will be a dignified honourer of its inspirator movie.
How about to engage all original actors???And…what about Don Johnson?Where is it now???

  18. when i saw the news that farrell was going to star in a miami vice remake, i automatically took it to mean will farrell, which i think would be a much better fit.

  19. Cool. I just found this site when I did a Google for “Jamie Foxx and Miami Vice.” This was my favorite show as a teen, and I am delighted that Vice seems to be making a resurgence (no doubt Universal’s doing). I don’t care for Colin Farrell as a person, but as an actor (with flawless American accent), he’s pretty much perfect for the Crockett role. He’ll probably bring the hard edge that the character requires.

Remember, Don Johnson had a similar reputation during the early Vice run. His partying “Don Juanson” rep is not so dissimilar to the present-day rep of Farrell.

If Mann intends to bring the original Vice/Heat/Thief mood to the movie, then he really needs to be onboard as director. I don’t think anyone will be able to pull off the atmosphere in a movie as well as he does.

Oh, and maybe bring back Jan Hammer to reprise the Vice theme (and maybe “Crockett’s Theme”) for the big screen.

Sorry for the long post. I’m excited to have found a cool site that speaks to the movie fan in me!

  20. and apparentl michael mann has let it be known it is potentially interested in directing : he likes to develop several ideas at once and then pick one to film – this is one of his options. cool.
