Daredevil 2 not happening

daredevil_ben.jpgIt’s a dark day for John. I’m am one of the few people who actually really liked Daredevil. I thought it was fun. It was a great cast, good action, and anything with Jennifer Garner in it will have me in line to see it as fast as I can. But more than that I just thought it was a solid overall film that didn’t get the credit it deserved, probably because Ben Affleck was in it (and by the way, I thought he did a very respectable job as Daredevil). I was sure that there would be a sequel, when a franchise movie makes over $100 million at the box office you can usually bank on it. But I guess with Ben Affleck making statements like these, the chances are slim to none:

Ben Affleck badmouthed Daredevil and any eventual sequel at a recent press conference. “I don’t know about Daredevil II. That may be too much work for me,” Affleck said while promoting the release of Paycheck. “I suppose that if Kevin Smith wrote it and was going to be involved, I would do it. … I’m not banging down the door trying to get Daredevil II made. You’ll know when my career is really on the slide when I start resurrecting the franchise.”

No Ben, we’ll know you’re career is really on the slide when you start winning Razie awards and no one wants to see any of your movies anymore. Oh wait… maybe you WILL be making Daredevil 2 soon after all!

  1. i don’t care what people think. Daredevil was a great movie. I’ve been waiting so f*****g long, for daredevil 2 to come to theatres. And Ben Affleck should do it. It would be kind of stupid, if at first, Affleck was in it, and if they make daredevil 2 he’s not in it.

right now i respect ben affleck, he was great in daredevil, and will be great in daredevil 2, but if he’s not in daredevil 2, i will lose respect for him!!! Don’t call it quits now Ben!!!

  2. If anything,I think they should make a second one considering the ending of the first movie sucked. But if they do the movie with out Ben, (even if hes not the best actor in the world)it would not be the same. And you all half to admitt it would turn out like Batman(After the first, they all sucked)But that is just my opinion.

  3. Surely the franchise could easily continue without Ben Affleck! Look at the Batman films, they continued without Michael Keaton. Many say they shouldnt have done, but Michael Keaton is a good actor. Affleck is a terrible actor so he is easily replaced. I havent seen dare devil, a film about a blind super hero never apealed to me much. Then again im not a big fan of comics or the films they lead to, with a few exceptions. The first Batman, Spiderman and the Superman films.

  4. Good Lord. Don’t ever use the Crow as an example of how to do a series right. Never. However, for a good time, you can head over to http://www.mysteryclock.com (Alex Proyas’ web site) and do a search in the forums to see just how he feels about the Crow sequels. I tend to agree with him. And go there even if you don’t search. It’s a cool site … short films and stuff you won’t see anywhere else …

  5. I’m with you, John, I really liked this film. If Ben wants out of it they should get someone else to play DD. Ben was respectable in the role, but there are other actors who would be just as good.

  6. Daredevil was undoubtedly one of the worst movies I’ve seen since the Skulls….or perhaps that arnold Batman flick. If the horrid Daredevil 1 can’t kill the possibility of a sequel…..nothing will…..
In the meantime I will cross my fingers and hope it doesnt get funding.
    :)

  7. I’m hoping the franchise will continue w/o Ben – he wasn’t that crucial to it’s success. Even if it’s straight to video a la “The Crow” franchise. And Ben may change his mind once the Elektra film is released and grosses over $200 because Jennifer Garner is *every* man’s female superhero fantasy, right? Or is that just me.

  8. Observation: Doesn’t it seem wierd that all of John’s posting usually begin with, “I am one of the few people that liked this movie…”? Just something I’ve noticed.
