Hey there folks. Ok, I know this is off topic, but this is a Movie BLOG, so since this is internet related, I figure I can get away with it. After hearing so many people talk about it, I finally decided to download and try the Firefox browser. I’ve gotta tell you folks, it is so much better and more fun to use than Mircosoft’s Internet Explorer that it’s hard to know where to start.
Here are just some of the highlights. It’s got a built in popup blocker to stop those pesky popups and you don’t need another utility to do it for you. My favorite feature of it so far is the tabbed browsing. You can load several pages at once while you’re reading another one. Very cool, and you don’t have to open up multiple windows to do it. It’s a LOT safer and more secure than Explorer. For the last few months I would notice that my internet was actively downloading stuff without me doing anything (and no, it wasn’t just the automatic update feature). As soon as I switched to Firefox that all stopped. The coolest feature is it’s ability to automatically identify if a site has an RSS feed (Like The Movie Blog does) and displays a little button in the lower corner. All you have to do is click the little button and it automatically becomes bookmarked in your “favorites” list and when you mouse over that bookmark it shows you all the latest headlines that are on that site. AMAZING!

hi all, yes it is a nice and handsome browser indeed – beside that i don’t manage to save quicktime movies as i did by taking it from IE’s temporary files location.. can you give me a hint about it? thx a lot!

I shop a lot online so there are always pop-ups built within the website itself. Will Firefox and it’s ‘no pop-ups’ negate all that? I emailed the company and they haven’t gotten back to me.

Firefox is good, but with the addition of SP2, the popblocker (my only want/need) is now included with IE – it is also very effective.
As far as tabing goes: screw it, over functionallity is the way I think of it. Sure, it’s nice, but it’s basically putting the string of things along your taskbar into its own spot under the address bar.
Also, with my job I use something called “behaviors” (imagine them as javascript, but they can be used with style sheets (one of their benefits)), something that mozilla based browsers cannot interpret yet.
My personal preference for using a seperate browser other than IE: Maxthon (formerly myIE). It is an IE based browser that includes tabing, mouse guestures, drag&drop, and many other features. Check the site out: http://www.myie2.com/html_en/home.htm

Firefox is spun off from Mozilla code but has been rewritten throughout to make for a more efficient browser. The same thing goes for Thunderbird, the email client which was spun off from the Mozilla codebase.
It’s ABOUT TIME…..When you’re a neurotic websurfer like me, then tabbed browsing is AWESOME…..I’m all over the place when I browse…..middle click my mouse button and read THAT link next…..Great stuff….
If I’m not mistaken (and I often am) I think Firefox is the stripped down version of Mozilla. It’s just the browser. If I’m not mistaken that is.
What’s the difference between Firefox and the standard Mozilla browser?

There’s a lot of talk of Fireforx just now, beats me why. I’ve been using Opera for a good few years now and it has (and had for some time) the features listed above. It’s quick, smooth and easy to use with integrated mail, news and chat, tabbed windows, automatic feeds, you can set popups for all open, open relevant, or open none, mouse gestures to control your surfing, cookie and password managers, skinable etc.
Very, very cool piece of software and simple to use. Haven’t looked at Firefox myself, I’ve found Opera to be perfect. (www.opera.com)
