At last Hollywood make a good move on the remake front and head towards a BBC drama that showed to critical acclaim. State of Play was nominated for seven BAFTA’s, including Best Drama, and won three with one of those being passed to Bill Nighy for Best Actor.
The film also starred David Morrissey and John Simm, and was the story of two seemingly unconnected murders. One of the victim’s worked in a Politician’s office, and the other victim’s death is being investigated by the Politician’s ex campaign manager turned journalist.
Sounds quite complex, it is, turning into a political and corporate conspiracy thriller, it does require some thought when watching, something which Hollywood tends to find quite hard. I do hope they do this series justice when it rolls out, and it’s looking good so far.
The Guardian brings some hope of that:
[Paul] Abbott, who is currently working on State of Play 2, was reportedly reluctant to sell the rights, but is now on board as executive producer. The hunt is on for a screenwriter to adapt the drama for big screen.

State Of Play was a fantastic drama, and could make a great movie. With another classic BBC drama getting the Hollywood treatment (Edge Of Darkness), I hope this is the beginning of a trend. There are loads of strong dramas from The Beeb that deserve a wider audience.
