Kevin Smith Opting out of The Green Hornet?

— Posted by John Campea

hornet.bmpIs Kevin Smith’s Green Hornet dead before it begins? Could be … Dark Horizons is reporting that Smith has opted out of directing duties for the film and will only be writing the script. Smith is apparently saying that his next film will be a low budget indie picture rather than the big action / genre project that would be the Green Hornet.

  1. I agree that this project will be better just cause he’s writing it.

I admire the fact that he was able to say “Well, maybe I can’t really do this action stuff. My goal was to always do smaller, dialog-heavy films.

That’s not a quote, but I think that summerizes what he’s said about his decision.

    Good decision, Mr. Smith.

  2. Personally, I think this is potentially fantastic news. I like Smith much more as a writer than as a director. In fact, I don’t think any of his films have been that well directed. With that said, he worships comics, his script for Superman (going unused) was pretty good, and I’m sure he can develop a script that would potentially be a great Green Hornet vehicle, especially in someone else’s hands.
