Miike’s One Missed Call Hits DVD Next Week

onemissedcall.jpgAnother find by the apparently all-seeing Logboy …

Takashi Miike’s One Missed Call is being released as a two DVD set in Korea September 7th and, yes, the Korean release does include subtitles. You can check out screen shots, the trailer and DVD specs at the AsianDB here.

One Missed Call is something of an anomaly in the Miike canon: a studio funded, decently high budget film targetted at mainstream horror fans. By all accounts this is a more conventional film than we’ve come to expect from Miike but apprently the tension still runs nice and high. I’ll be finding out for myself soon enough …

I wouldn’t actually recommend buying this through that link up above, by the way. AsianDB has a very well deserved reputation for being overpriced. I’ve only linked to their entry because they’re currently the only major retailer listing the release … give the others a day or two to catch up and we’ll post a better purchasing link …

  1. asiandb.com have decided to do some research and have removed the “english subtitles” from their listing… so we will have to wait til october for the HK release…

  2. i have had email replies from both asiandb.com and koreandvds.com : they seem unable to clarify the subtitles issue at this time… they are trying to find more info. i have also emailed “mr.kwang” … fingers crossed. other “bear entertainment” dvds have contained english subtitles…
    “ju-on 2” and “my wife is a gangster” etc…

  3. some sites are saying “subs” and some are saying “no subs”. gonna email a few to try and clarify. its distributed by “bear entertainment” so if anyone knows their website…

  4. infact, cos of some mileage offer at koreandvds.com the total including airmail to me only came to $17.99 : cool. thats probably cheaper than its gonna be in the USA. also : koreandvds.com has a habit of sneaking prices steadily higher as the title gets more popular so head over now for the best deal…

  5. It’s pretty good. Definitely the work of Miike; not as surreal as some of his movies but then again, Audition wasn’t that surreal at all. If I had to categorize it, I’d say it was a more gory Audition, in fact.

I also dug the satire of a) cell phone culture, b) Ringu (et al), and c) reality TV in Japan.
