Great to hear of Rambo 4 and Rocky 6 in the one year!! After the drugery and banality that pock marked so many films in the nineties and the naughties to date( Terminator 3 was the biggest film dissappointment ever), finally a real action hero and star decideds to relive an old and well proven role(s). We can perhaps get an appreciation again of what it used to be like to see Real movie stars on the screen and awaite eagerly to go and see a new release film in the cinema. This is a rareity nowadays and you have to admit, most people are indifferent to cinema or getting it on dvd and whatching it at home. The two above films have the potential to change all that. Stallone rocks. He’s got more talent and more DRIVE than most people. I mean, look at the guy. I can’t believe he’s almost 60. He doesn’t need to prove anything. He was on top of the world for more than a decade. Another thing, I’m sick of people bashing others(Stallone) just because they’ve been type-cast. I mean, who are they to bash a guy that worked his ass off for what he’s achieved? If anything, the new Rambo and Rocky movies will be a treat for the fans. So stop wasting your time saying that Stallone sucks and all his movies are bad, he can’t act, etc. Rocky, which was written by Stallone, was nominated for 10 academy awards and won best picture. To be precise, i read that the success of that film was on a scale of Star Wars, but i think it was much more huge sensation. I have faith in Sly. He is a great writer and producer, from the seventies to the present. He does know what the people what when it comes to action. Just think about it how many “action & supense” movies he has been in and been apart of. Love him or hate him, Rambo is an iconic figure and his character has more intelligence and sensitivity to human life than many give him credit for. First Blood is a classic action survival film, Part 2 is a fantastic action piece aided by great cinematography and scoring, and while Part 3 is by far the weakest of the trilogy, it entertains in a cartoonish sort of way.
Sly will be wise to allow us a final visit with John Rambo – the tone of the final product will hinge on the director, however.
Like another contributor above, I’ll be purchasing advance tix in ’06 for one more foray into the thoughtful, forward-pushing and reflective world of an altruistic outcast.
Until then, I’ll be brushing up with the Ultimate Trilogy and reading Sly Moves.

i always loved watching the entire rambo series…perhaps what not many people would know is that the rambo movies are more than jus blood-spilling shooting films…there are meaningful plots behind all this revolving around his character…In the original movie he played a veteran soldier back to find an old friend only to realise things are not the same anymore..he gets harrassed by a shitty cop and gets pushed to the limit..soon he realised he needs to fight in order to win..in the end under the persuasion of his mentor and former commander Col Trautman..he agrees to give up his fight…
The 2nd and 3rd series are jus as interesting as well…lets hope the 4th installment will end with a bang..
Sylvester Stallone is the best actor of all time… he went the distance and he proved his worth.
He is not only a great actor… he also is a writer/director/artist/producer/tv host.
He is currently 58 and in better shape than most guys who are 25 and active.

I always loved the Rambo character and remember seeing First Blood in the theater when it originally came out. If Sly is ready to do one more, I’m right there with him. I never understood why some people are SO against trying to revive an old character. To me, it’s always been like looking up an old friend and seeing what they’re doing with themselves. If you’ve ever actually *watched* the Rambo movies you would feel for the character and what he’s going through. The original was about a man unstable from the Vietnam War who was pushed to the limit and beyond, and realized that the only way he would survive his situation was to bring war to his tormentors. The character is always being mistaken as a violence-loving idiot, but in each movie he’s always tried to avoid conflict initially. I’ve always cared what happens to the character, and was near tears in his breakdown at the end of the first movie. How can you *not* like these movies?
If a fourth gets made, not only would I set aside a Friday night to see it, but I’d buy the tickets in advance. It takes me back to a time when I’d actually stand in line for a movie, or see one more than once. There just aren’t movies made like this anymore. When was the last time you saw a character that you were in awe of? When Sly walked on stage you just knew he was capable of kicking every ass on the screen. When Brian Dennehy grabbed his gun and told him to “put your hands on the car and you spread ’em” and you saw Stallone look at the revolver, you knew he was calculating how many ways he could take it from him. When Rambo drew his knife and approached Murdock slowly in the second movie, you wanted him to bury it in the guy’s forehead.
There are a lot of interesting directions they can go with this movie. If treated right he can be a very complex character. Stallone is always in excellent shape, but if he spends 90% of the movie shirtless you’ll lose all credibility.
Here’s a nice premise: Trautman is dead (Richard Crenna). Rambo has long since returned to the States (1989) and has made the military his life, training Green Berets or SEALs or Rangers, etc. After 9/11 he became involved with anti-terrorism, understanding the mindset of Islamists, after fighting with the Mujahideen. Intelligence reports a terrorist plot that involves weapons being brought into the States through the Canadian border in Washington state, through the area where Rambo had his first run-in with Brian Dennehy’s character almost 25 years earlier. Now Rambo, head of the anti-terrorist team, has to work with Dennehy, whom he tried to kill years before. Interesting?
EXCELLENT NEWS! I love Rambo and its about time we see John Rambo again one last time. This is like another Indiana Jones or a Goonies 2. I think this one will definitely top the box office record. Ppl would flock to see Rambo IV after more than decade off the big screen. Go SLY!!

Rambo teamed with the Mujahadeen. The Taliban and the Mujahadeen are not the same thing; though some Muj. did end up in the Taliban, many others fought in opposition to it.
I don’t think that Sly is capable of pulling off a Rambo movie that is more like First Blood than Rambo 2 or 3. If he can, more power to him, because First Blood was an above average movie.

I have a lot of time for Stallone as well as Arnie. Stallone has overcome a lot to get where he is and achieved much before the first Rocky was even filmed. Still, he can’t keep returning to those roles.
