X-Files 2 Right Around The Corner

x-files-mix.jpgSome things run too long. Pro athletes retire too late and are only shadows of their former selves… one too many movies get made in a series… and often a good TV show runs 2 or 3 seasons too long. Such is the case with The X-Files. This was a terrific show that just hit the wall of suck real sudden and real fast. The addition of Robert Patrick to the cast gave the show a little boost of energy… but even that wasn’t enough as every episode got progressively worse and worse. It was a sad and slow ending until it’s death in one of the truly worst Series Finales of all time. What a shame.

On the plus side, the X-Files movie was surprisingly good (IMHO). I thought it was well thought out, well executed, and set the show up for some really neat directions. But alas, the producers completely dropped the ball and little to no follow up to the movie was done. Once again, what a shame. We’ve reported here on The Movie Blog for some time that another X-Files movie could be in the works, and now it looks like such a project is a lot closer than we realized. MovieHole gives us this:

Well, so far from what I know, David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson have been saying for years now about the next film, but I have also heard from a gent at Fox that the new film not only has a finished script, but also has a director attached and a start date scheduled for the end of the year.

The post also goes on to point out the Robert Patrick has confirmed the project and is on board. If for nothing else I’m willing to hold out some hope for this movie because of all the potential the X-Files had (and ultimately squandered). Let’s hope Carter has seen the error of his ways and has taken a good long time to reflect on how to get this story back on track. I think it has a shot.

  1. You know what, despite the downfall during the last couple of seasons, I still do and will always continue to adore the x-files…no doubt about it.

I just hope that with all the time chris has had, he has come up with quality, captivating and refreshing storylines for this movie..assuming it will go ahead!!

    I LOVE THE X-FILES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    P.S. Was there a question??

  2. Well, I think that people will care because almost everyone will agree that the finale was a bit lacking. Because of this, I think that there is a need in many “fanboys” eyes for some closure.

And as to whether or not you liked the series, Campea, I certainly don’t care, but for those of us who really enjoyed the show are looking forward to a movie. Maybe the gap between series and the realse will arise like the pheonix. I mean, look at all the new re-surfaces in the media today. I think fans are ready and willing.

  3. It’s been what…three years since x-files ended? Will anybody actualy care to see this movie? and yes before you x-file fanboys get your panties in a twist I did sit through nine years of the good, the bad, and the downright awfulness of the series.

  4. I disagree Campea. I just finished watching the finale(Ive seen every episode now) and I thought it tied up all the lose ends nicely. Campea have you seen alot of the episodes or just season 9? I was also wondering if anyone knows if Duchovny “jumped the gun” by saying XF2 was a sure thing?

  5. ok-the series didn;t end so well, but look at the way the characters have grown so much since that fateful day d.Scully walked into the basement of Mulder’s office..look at how the characters unfold..despite the deteriorating script quality.hhmm..i think any fan would agree that the show is worth watching to see how great Gillian pulled off her acting skills to hold the whole episodes together..that’s the reason to watch s 9,fren..fr season 1-7,pls watch it..you may have not done soo.even then thr were some mediocre episodes..
    that’s all.

  6. The show was brilliant, i am currently only upto season 9, i have been a great fan of the show for years and have enjoyed watching every second of it. I think the show was a great success and it went down in history, hopefully it will be remembered for what it was and what they had. Seeing as i have yet to watch season 9 i cant say nothing about that… I think the cast & crew did a great job

  7. Hmmm,

Well i dont understand what you are doing reading this page if you dont like the x-files, yes its true, it was a bit drawn out towards the end, but i still believe it is the most interesting, and excellent story anyone could ever conceive, i was very disapointed at the way season 9 ended, and i have hoped for a long time more will be made, looks like my dreams have come true.

  8. BTW, they did well because you didn’t have to see every single episode to understand what’s going on. Look at Alias, The OC, and the other new citcoms except for CSI. They screwed up because noone could miss an episode and get away with it. People have stopped watching those shows too quickly.

  9. I’d be thrilled if a new X-files show came up. I’ve always been a huge fan of the series, and it truly raked in some $$ for the sponsors. Everyone loved it!! I remember losing interest during the last few seasons, but I think they did well. Go rent the first series, no dissappointment guaranteed. I’ve got the entire season.

  10. Your wrong,
The X-files was the greatest series to ever hit tv. The movie was also great. Maybe you should do yourself a favor by buying seasons 1-8 on dvd and actually watching the epic story behind it. You propbably only saw the ninth season. Go rent the rest!

  11. Man, does ANYONE even care that this movie is coming out?

You’re right, they beat this franchise into the ground big time. The audience will only accept getting it’s chain yanked maybe 100 times before it’s says “enough already!”.
