Andre 3000 cast in next John Singleton movie

Andre3k.jpgWith a silly name like Andre 3000 you just have to be in showbiz, and not content with singing 3000 (could I call him 3k?) is making the transition to movies quite well.

Yahoo is carrying the story from Reuters that 3k (real name Andre Benjamin) has been cast in the film formerly known as Four Brothers.

Directed by John Singleton and starring Mark Wahlberg and Ice Cube, the film:

…revolves around four brothers who seek to avenge their mother’s death.

Tyrese (“The Flight of the Phoenix”) and Garrett Hedlund (“Friday Night Lights”) also are on board. They’ll play Andre 3000’s siblings along with Wahlberg, who was previously announced as one of the brothers. Principal photography is scheduled to begin Monday in Toronto.

Andre 3000’s previous forays into cinema include the upcoming MGM feature “Be Cool” and Guy Ritchie’s “Revolver.” He also is starring in HBO’s untitled OutKast movie.

Actually I haven’t seen him in any of these, but I did see him on an episode of Boomtown, which is a great TV show, and I was genuinely surprised. He didn’t stand out as a singer or non-actor at all, and it wasn’t until near the end of his appearances in the show that I suddenly thought it was him.

Perhaps this is one of the few music stars (mainly rap and hip-hop) that can actually act. Feel free to correct me, but I actually have fun watching acting types like Ice Cube and LL Cool J!

  1. Do i have to school you guys again?
Andre 3000 should not play lead roles. He is at best when playing the 3rd of fourth supporting role. He does not have the acting experience. Now he is real creative, but he would be best in those old slave movies picking cotton or something. He shouldnt do mainstream movies because they are not as artistic for him.

The smartest rapper who acted was P. diddy. I mean he did his thing in Made. but It was a part that fit him to the T. I mean i can watch that scene over and over again. He was also smart when he chose that small part in monsters ball. He chooses wisely.

  2. So all three principal actors announced so far started off as rappers before getting into acting… interesting. I’m surprised John hasn’t thrown a fit about this one yet.
