Baz Luhrmann’s Alexander epic is back on

BazLuhrmann.jpgThis is great news, Baz Luhrmann is back on with his epic tale of Alexander, not only that it is to star the cast first on board for the project before it was put on hold. That’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Nicole Kidman. The Guardian have the story:

Screen Daily reports that Luhrmann and Hannibal producer Dino De Laurentiis are to go ahead with plans to shoot the blockbuster, starring the original cast announced in 2003

De Laurentis himself speaks:

We will shoot the film in one year’s time and it will be the Alexander that everyone has been waiting for,” De Laurentiis told an Italian newspaper, Il Corriere della Sera.

“I don’t want to knock Oliver Stone, who merits respect. But his picture was certainly flawed, and was missing the spine of a screenplay,” added De Laurentiis. “Epic films are difficult to do well. King Arthur was also flawed.”

Luhrmann has an excellent imagination for scripts and story, and an excellent eye for pulling off the most stunning and entertaining visuals. I could see this Alexander making it much better than the Stone version. Luhrmann’s vision of this Greek conqueror will be an excellent wait.

  1. This is great news!!! For so long have I been keeping my eyes and ears open for news on whether Baz will go ahead with this movie, which should be a masterpiece if Baz Luhrmann is involved.

He is such an inteligent and amazing director. Each film a visual piece of art for the sense. Truly, it is great to hear this. Leo should be great. No doubt it will the years greatest movie.

  2. I am a big Baz fan so I am really looking forward to this. I will admit a certain deliciousness in the idea it will do much better than Oliver Stones crap.

Not sure about Leo, but he is a great actor. I just find him bizarre to look at. I’ll be interested to see if this comes out like a true beautiful Baz film. There is a lushness to his work that an epic like Alexander could really benefit from.
