Bryan Singer’s new project “U Want Me 2 Kill Him?”

BryanSinger.jpgLooks like Bryan Singer is up for another controversial and sinister movie akin to his previous work on Apt Pupil, taking the story of a young boy who conspired towards his own murder through Internet discussions with a fellow teenager. Bizarre to say the least, MovieWeb brings us more:

According to Variety, Warner Bros. has bought screen rights to Judy Bachrach’s article U Want Me 2 Kill Him? which appeared in the February edition of Vanity Fair. Bryan Singer will develop and direct the film.

The tale chronicled a bizarre Internet relationship between a 14-year-old loner with a vivid imagination and the 16-year-old with whom he corresponded. The younger boy wound up being stabbed twice and nearly killed by the older boy. The twisted saga left one charged as the co-conspirator in a murder attempt — his own.

That sounds right up Singers street to be quite frank, and the kind of material he could bring to life quite easily. Twisted, bizarre and complex, just like some of his previous movies.

The helmer is prepping WB’s Superman for a March shoot. Singer is also attached to direct a remake of Logan’s Run for WB and producer Joel Silver.

I have no idea what my Dad thinks about the Logan’s Run remake, but I can guess, and all of his words would be unprintable here apart from the bit about Jenny Agutter…actually that would be too. He’s a huge fan you see!

Still, I think there could be a good remake to be had here, it is an interesting story and perhaps was ahead of it’s production time which just added to its charm. However, with today’s budgets and production values, there’s great scope to make this much more than it was. Sorry Dad.

  3. Well, if the article wasn’t sensationalize he probably will watch it. The article pretty much stated that he likes to be recongized and is disappointed when people don’t know who he is. Not sure if that’s true, but it wouldn’t all together surprise me.

  4. Dom is telling the truth, but I thought only one of the boys went to our school?

I saw that kid yesterday as it happens. I wonder if he will ever watch this film?

  5. I’m sure no one will believe me when I say that this all happened in my home town and the two boys involved went to my school.

It will be very strange seeing a story that was originally passed on to me ‘chinese whispers’ style put up on screen, dressed up as a psychological thriller.

  6. I read that article in Vanity Fair. It’s a total trip and in the back of my mind was the little voice, “I wonder when this will be made into a movie.” Of course, the police never truly understood the whole of the case and there are still questions to how all of it came about.

I use to participated in on-line roleplaying and I know that there are some twisted people out there, who take roleplaying way too seriously and prey on those who have a weaker personality. I have been witness to and involved in some over the top stuff over the computer. People can get very worked up over something that is supposed to be just a game. All the arguing, politics and lack of creative storylines turned me off and I finally stopped playing all together.

What drives these people? I think a good part of high emotions is competitive nature. Then there are those whose only social interaction is the internet and can loose sight of what is fantasy and what is reality.
And then there are a small number of individuals who seek to donimate people on the internet for the sake of feeling that power and control over another person.

What makes this story so creepy is that the boys became friends outside of the cyber world and the one boy was able to keep up the rouse. It’ll be interesting to see how this movie is presented and what kind of conversy is could potentially stir.
