Choices for Wonder Woman casting, young and old

WonderWomanTV.jpgWe’ve already had one woman penned as a possible Wonder Woman, so now here’s a story with two more options. Ananova are suggesting that the story could go two ways and portray the heroine as young or old, and they have suggestions for each. More than suggestions it hints, and the New York Post along with it as its source.

Kim Basinger is being considered for the lead role in a big screen version of Wonder Woman.

The 51-year-old actress would play the super hero if the character is older, the New York Post reports.

I never thought of her, and she would be a fabulous choice. Not influenced by the fact I think she is amazingly gorgeous. Sigh.

Blade star Jessica Biehl is the favourite to play Wonder Woman if she’s younger.

Not so sure about that one. Is she curvy enough for the role? No offence or sexism meant, but Lynda Carter was quite a voluptuous woman, and that is the way that most square eyed viewers will think of her. I do.

  1. Why is anyone even discussing Belluci, Basinger, Connelly or anyone who looks older than 25 tops playing an Immortal Amazon Woman?

    The same with these people who keep suggesting Lynda Carter (who was perfect for the role in her day) should play Wonder Womans mother in the film!

    Get with the programme people!

    Wonder Womans mother will look virtually no older than she does! (In fact in the comic a few years back Wonder Womans mother Queen Hippolyta took on the role of Wonder Woman while her daughter was otherwise occupied.)

    So if Lynda (with respect) is too old to play WW she is too old to play her mother too!

  3. there is only one woman fit to be wonder woman. One look at Kristy Swanson convinced me that she is the only woman who is beautiful, sexy and in the right proportions to be wonder woman. I would like to be in her lasso, if only it would be possible.

  9. I think Lynda Carter should play the older Wonder Woman, or at least the Amazon Queen if they do an origins movie. I’d cast my vote for Kyla Cole as a young wonder woman, but I am not sure she speaks english, or if they would want an “adult model” playing Wonder Woman. Kyla is beautiful, tall, blue eyed, and brunette. If they wanted to stick to the mainstream, I’d say someone a little more rounded that Jessica Beale.

    I’m sure that’s all a giveaway but..

    I think playing wonder woman would be a chance of a lifetime. Being a big dreamer, I√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve always wanted to be a director…producer…actor anything because I√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve been so fascinated by movies since before i could remember (as I√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m sure is the same with a lot of you). And after watching season one and season two of the series I dreamt of making this show a movie (haha I√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m supposedly not the most original person)since yesterday, i saw the movie had been announced on imdb. Now, being quite the Amazonian myself (6’4″, athletically built, and only being 17) i just hope the casting of this wonder woman does justice to the character as well as justice to Lynda carter. Because watching her as a strong, beautiful, and confident, and tall (yay for tall!) woman, she inspired me and has made me proud to be as I am.

    So yeah, I’m somewhat bitter the odds that I would actually being a part of this movie let alone play the part of wonder woman are slim to none (and mostly none)! I hope they choose someone who’ll inspire young girls the same way Lynda Carter has inspired me.

    And I√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll just have to hold off until Halloween to put on those big ol’ red boots√¢‚Ǩ¬¶

    Sorry this isn’t really a recommendation of who the actress should be. It’s more of a hope and plea for the casting director I suppose…

  23. Jessica Biel is a retarded choice for WW, as is Sarah Michelle Gehller and the rest of the idiots Hollywood rumor is spitting out. Sandy Bullock would make a great OLDER WW, but I don’t know about the main role. Maybe I’m just partial to myself, but I think I could be the kick-ass WW they’re looking for. I’m 5’10” dark brown hair, ice-blue eyes, athletic body, etc. I wish Joss would at least think about any WW out in the world and not in Hollywood.

  27. Lucy Lawless – good candidate. She’s got the look, acting depth and has the ‘action’ acting experience to back it up. Tall, curvaceous, beautiful, dark hair. Lynda Carter-ish.

  28. LAUREN GRAHAM !!! I have been a HUGE fan of Lynda Carter/Wonder Woman. I never wanted a movie made if Lynda wasn’t WW. However, being about 30 years later, that’s not possible. When Gilmore Girls premiered, it was the FIRST time I thought to myself, now there’s the ONLY person that would nail it. Lauren Graham has amazing Wonder Woman looks and qualities about her. In my own opinion, Lauren is the FIRST and only person I felt that would portray the Wonder Woman I fell in love with 30 years ago. And Lauren is TOTALLY interested in the part. I’ll keep my fingers crossed!!!

  29. What about Sandra Bullock? I think she would be perfect for the part. Wonder Woman wasn’t young, she wasn’t old… mid 30’s… I grew up on that show and choosing the wrong person will absolutely ruin it!

  32. I think the best choice for Wonder Woman would be CHARISMA CARPENTER! Not only does she have Joss’ unique dialog down, but she’s a total Amazon. And as far as height being an issue, the cameras can take care of that. Who cares if Charisma posed for Playboy, that only makes her more desireable. Also, I have an issue with actors playing more than one superhero role. Example – Halle Berry’s Storm and Catwoman. Storm was cool, her Catwoman was kinda lame. Plus, Kim Basinger was Vicki Vale in the first Batman, and Jessica Beil was Abagail Whistler in the most recent Blade installment. And Lauren Graham is too comedy for this I think. I would like to see a more serious and darker Wonder Woman and not so much cheese. I think Joss will do an excellent job with this movie. SO my vote is for CHARISMA CARPERTER!!!

  33. I think the best choice to play Wonder Woman would be CHARISMA CARPENTER. Not only has she been on a previous Joss show and would know how to deliver his dialog, but she is absolutely all Amazon. And as far as the height issue, the camera can take care of that. I mean look at most the actresses on tv,they’re all really short yet they don’t appear to be. And I also have an issue with casting actors to play superheroes when they have already played one. Example: Halle Berry – Storm and Catwoman. Its just wrong. And Jessica Biel played Abagail Whistler in the most recent Blade movie. So I say CHARISMA CARPENTER ALL THE WAY!!!

  35. Get someone new to do it…discovery is more exciting that same old…. same old. Look at what happened with Cat woman? They picked Halle to do that part just because she was popular, and people seemed to be bored by it.

  36. If they are considering a mature Wonder Womam, Lynda Carter is my choice. Bring her back! On the big screen she would blow them away. She’s perfect at any age. Or if they insist on mid-thirties Catherine Zeta Jones has my vote, but I still believe only Lynda Carter is right for the role.

    God…I remember her in that movie with Don Johnson and Virginia Madsen…oh yeah, the Hot Spot…great movie. She was lovely!

  42. Hands down, it should be Jennifer Connelly (w/ lots of boob support) or Angelina Jolie. The actress should be beautiful, curvaceous and strong but with some maturity and depth of character. I will be SO disappointed if someone like Jessica Biel or Sarah Michelle Gellar gets it!

  44. kim basinger? shes about lynda carter’s age common why not just get lynda carter in shape & let her play wonder woman again, basinger is not tall enough. I would rather see terry farrel or jennifer connely, biel is ok.

  49. Basinger and Beil would both be the wrong choice in my opinion. I’m not a big fan of either, not to mention they’re both stick shapes. Come on – we’re talking Woman Woman! You can not downplay the casting of this role by any means. I’m all for casting an unknown. Personally, I think it often works better that way.

  50. Kim Basinger is too damn. Who ever it is that writes this movie has to keep them selves from oversimplify the character. Wonder Woman is kind and diplomatic and most importantly she only resorts to violence when she has to. She not like Lara Croft who will dress like a slut and crash a plane into the side of a mountain because she can. I am really looking forward to this movie. Satu Rautaharju looks alright but how tall is she?

  52. I haven’t looked at pics of them next to each other, but is Basinger any more curvy than Beil. I think you definitley need to go younger than older. Not teen or early 20’s young, but mid thirties would be a good age to cast her.

  53. Depends if Joss Whedon decides to write/direct this or X3. Whedon’s always been great at casting, often using people who are relative unknowns. If he does Wonder Woman, the most important issue will be finding somebody who can deliver his dialogue and characterisation – which would quite possibly be someone less famous, so the audience doesn’t carry over baggage from where they’ve seen them before (much like Singer casting Brandon Routh as Superman).
