Director and script chosen for Toy Story 3

toystory.jpgNot too sure how concrete this one is, but FilmRot are carrying that the Director for Toy Story 3 has been chosen. Wooo, I can see the ripple of excitement run through that squeezed bandwidth.

The reason I’m not too sure about it is that it comes from the Blog of an “industry insider”. Excuse my scepticism, but I’ve had so many bad experiences of the “I am a…” on the Internet (and I don’t mean the woman story!). However, if they have it at FilmRot, I’m well inclined to believe it more than most.

The new director of Toy Story 3 is Bradley Raymond. Brad has directed several DTV movies for Disney.

I still think this is just a bad movie waiting to happen. It smells bad from the start, especially when Pixar are seen as the underdog and the good side of this fight, with Disney looking like a corporate that can’t get its own way or a hint of its former glory without someone else’s movie.

  1. While I don’t know the “insider” you mentioned personally, thus I can’t vouch for his trustworthiness – I have been reading his blog since almost the day he started it. He seems to know what he’s talking about, generally.

Still, your right to be cautious. Thanx for the link :]

  2. well according to imdb, he’s done 4 previous dtv films for disney. the latest being lion king 1 1/2 /3. as dtv sequels go, this one seems interesting. a sort of reimagining of lion king 1, from a different pov.
so the film may still prove to be… amusing, i suppose. however, i fear everyone will compare it to the first 2, the likes of whom this will never match up to. simply because the focus isn’t on telling a good story, but in generating revenue.
