John Cusack in another hitman movie

JohnCusack.jpgJohn Cusack is a god. He is superb fun, he easily tears through his role with ease and he’s got one of those faces that manages to be comic without really doing anything when it needs to be, then strong and imposing without much effort. I personally love him, as an actor that is, as does my girlfriend, and that’s also in the same way!

So it’s wonderful news when you hear that not only is he signed up for a new project, but that there are comparisons, tenuous as they may be, to Grosse Point Blank. He’s signed up to a movie with a contract killer…okay, really tenuous, but if it’s funny and he’s the killer? Cinema Confidential carry the story from Variety.

…John Cusack and Morgan Freeman have joined “The Contract,” a thriller to be directed by Bruce Beresford.

Written by Stephen Katz and John Darrouzet, the film tells the story of a family outing gone wrong when a grandfather, son and grandson cross paths with a contract killer.

Sounds interesting, and with the talents of Morgan Freeman on board, even more so. One to definitely keep an eye on.

  1. Yep I very much agree with you there again Rich.

Although he is good in rom coms, he stands out in the action-comedy-satire types like GPB. I had so much fun watching him in there. And the addition of Minnie Driver as the love interest wasnt cheesy at all.

I also like it when Jeremy Piven is around.

    What about “Runaway Jury”?

  2. Say Anything and Sure Thing are just totally wonderful. That’s all there is to say!

High Fidelity and Being John Malkovich follow very closely.

However, Grosse Point Blank wins hands down as his best ever movie.

  3. He has been really wise in his film choices I have to say, I always make it a point that when a Cusack film is out, I am out there enjoying it to the hilt. Especially when he finally made a film opposite Al Pacino in “City Hall”, wowowowow!

Some of my all-time fave Cusack films:

    Grosse Point Blank
    Being John Malkovich
    Say Anything
    The Sure Thing
    High Fidelity
    Serendipity
    Identity
    Pushing Tin

Heck, I know “America’s Sweethearts” sucked but it was watchable because of him, I even have it on DVD and on occassions, part of my guilty pleasures list!

  4. Just wanted to join int he john cusack praise-a-thon. One of my favorite actor of all time. Suprise that he is not more popular…oh well thats probably a good thing..otherwise he would become another Nicolas Cage -big-budget-mainstream-only actor.

  5. Ah, yes, he is one of my most favorite actors ever. I think one of my favorite films of his is “Pushing Tin”. I found that film really funny.

And I loved the seemingly obligatory mention of the girlfriend after you profess your admiration for his acting abilities. :D

  6. *chuckles* Yeah I think that’s what he really meant to say there Rich.

There is another film he is doing, the film adaptation of the book “Must Love Dogs”, which another romantic comedy this time opposite Diane Lane. I am so loking forward to that.

So any guys here who also loved other Cusack films like “The Sure Thing” and “Say Anything”?

  7. I have got to say that “Grosse Point Blank” was a terrific film, and with Cusack and Ackroyd playing the hitmen it was hilarious watching them two. So if Cusack is doing another movie as a hitman, count me in!
