Johnny Depp optioning story of Iraq nuclear scientist

JohnnyDepp.jpgThe following statement is fact. Johnny Depp is a God in acting. The rest of the story for this new movie may not be, and Depp may not even be in the movie, but it’ll make a damn interesting film none the less and it needed saying again.

Coming Soon is reporting from Variety that:

Variety says Initial Entertainment Group and Johnny Depp have optioned nonfiction book The Bomb in My Garden, written by Iraq’s top nuclear scientist Mahdi Obeidi and People magazine foreign correspondent Kurt Pitzer.

The movie will tell the story of how, after Saddam Hussein’s capture, Obeidi tried to turn himself and his secrets over to the U.S., only to find the CIA and other government agencies didn’t believe him. The journo hatched a scheme to get Obeidi and his family out of the country before he was killed by insurgents who wanted to silence him. Obeidi gave over secrets that included a uranium enrichment device he buried in his yard.

We’re seeing the movie projects coming out of the War on Terror and Iraq a bit slower that I thought they would, but I think the more human they are the better. Documentarys like Gunner Palace and movies like this one should be are the ones we should be seeing. Stories of what people went through while we saw far off explosions and political statements.

Try to get involved in this project !
I know you would be great in portraying Mahdi Obeidi. And with a Johnny Depp in the running, I see Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor at the oscars. GO FOR IT !!!
