Jon Voight Nominated + Not Invited = DUMB

jonvoight5.jpgYes there are rules and regulations to everything, and yes you have to follow those rules and regulations. But sometimes situations arise that obviously call for exceptions to these rules and regulations… like this stupid situation.

Jon Voight has been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. However, because he only has a certain level of membership with SAG, he isn’t allowed to actually attend the awards ceremony. Huh?!?! You’ve got to be kidding me! IMDB reports the following:

Screen Actors Guild award-nominee Jon Voight will have to watch the ceremony from home next month – because he’s been banned from attending. Voight was given the nod in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries category for his role in TV show The Five People You Meet In Heaven – but has also been informed he won’t be getting an invite to the February 5 ceremony in Los Angeles because he had previously resigned from the guild and is currently classified as a fee-paying non-member.

The executive board of SAG should all be collectively smacked upside the head. Not only does Voight (as a nominee) deserve to be there, but it also looks bad on your organization to be on television, have the actors name read as a nominee and not have him there. And what happens if he wins?!?! Does someone then get up and say “I’m happy to accept this award for Mr. Voight who couldn’t be here because he was banned from attending”? Use some common sense people.
