Natalie Portman in talks for V for Vendetta

portman7.jpgIn a time when we’re besieged by Comic and Graphic Novel (see, I made the distinction for all you fans out there) movie adaptations that are often below standard, or just cash cows, it’s extremely heartening to see an adaptation that not only comes from excellent stock but is getting a more than decent treatment. V for Vendetta promises much, and I for one am hoping my socks off.

The Graphic Novel is excellent, it’s fantastically written and really grabs you and pulls you along throughout the story. As Coming Soon describe it:

Written by Alan Moore, with art by David Lloyd, “Vendetta” takes place in a totalitarian England following a devastating war that changed the face of the planet. In a world without political freedom, personal freedom and precious little faith in anything comes a mysterious man in a white porcelain mask who fights political oppressors through terrorism and seemingly absurd acts.

They also carry the possibly exciting news from Variety that Natalie Portman is in talks to play the young woman rescued and\or kidnapped by Vendetta. The Wachowski Brothers have written the screenplay and passed the Directing over to their previous first assistant director James McTeigue.

McTeigue recently wrapped duties as first a.d.a.d. on Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, where he worked closely with Portman. The studio plans to start production the first week of March in Berlin for a fall 2005 release.

I really do think this could be one that rises to the top of the bulk of mediocre comic\graphic novel adaptations we’re seeing of late.

  1. Whoa!

I’m astonished to come across this as I was thinking of the whole concept for the character of V and what kind of character he is. I know him well from reading up on Mr. Alan Moore’s creation.

On halloween night 2003 I dressed up as this character. It would definitely be ideal, and phenomonal to make a picture based on V for Vendetta.

If you need any help with this project, or any questions at all please contact me, a.s.a.p.

I’ve read V for Vendetta at least twice, and have even dressed up like V for halloween of 2003. You may have seen me in college park, and georgetown in the d.c. area, amongst some friends that night.

Otherwise, I know I had my picture taken, and may have been seen by other celebrities.

I’m glad that Natalie Portman may consider this role, and that talk about this as a picture has come forth.
