Rambo IV: In the Serpent’s Eye
God helps us, Rambo is back in town, and this time; he’s directing. Well that is Sylvester Stallone is directing. And he will once again don his machine gun and coco butter for the forth installment of Rambo IV: The Serpent’s Eye. The people over at comingsoon.net give us this:
According to Production Weekly, Sylvester Stallone will reprise the role of Vietnam vet John Rambo in a fourth “Rambo” film.
The site says that Stallone is set to produce and direct the sequel based on his own script titled Rambo IV: In the Serpent’s Eye. Production is tentatively scheduled for January in Thailand.
The next chapter finds Rambo recruited by a group of Christian human rights missionaries to protect them against pirates, during a humanitarian aid deliver to the persecuted Karen people of Burma. After some of the missionaries are taken prisoner by sadistic Burmese soldiers, Rambo gets a second impossible job: to assemble a team of mercenaries to rescue the surviving relief workers
Ok so the plot isn’t all that original, but it isn’t terrible. Rambo helps the weak and meek. We see a him train an army (probably some hot, fit young men and women) and kicks some butt. Now hopefully he has a reason to take revenge so that the real rage-filled Rambo is unleashed.
Rambo IV may actually be coming out at the right time for male audiences. There hasn’t had many butch men ripping it up on screen lately. Superman is prettier than me, Spiderman is a baby face and even the bad guys are all powder fresh.
Maybe what we need is a greasy 59 year old Vietnam war vet to remind us what manly is.

Yeah! Who needs Jason Statham, right Sharon?
How well will John Cena do in a few weeks? Bad, real bad!
But the main thing here is Stallone is directing. Ugh. He should give Renny Harlin a call…no, better yet, James Margold.
Like I said there hasn’t been “many” butch action roles (don’t worry Darren of course the world need Jason Statham).
As for directing, well…he’s been directing since the seventies. Poorly, but still he does have experience. Hopefully he’ll have a great cinematographer or at least a decent assistant director.
Okay, let me get this all summerized…Sly Stallone has another ‘Rocky’ movie coming out and now there is going to be another ‘Rambo’? Pushing 60, Stallone does look good for his age, but, let’s be real. With the Vin Diesels, et al out there, wouldn’t it have been better for Stallone to create a better vehicle for his talents…or is a low bank account the reason for these films? Even Clint Eastwood re-invented his format. At 60 Sly needs to rest both characters and move on.
The idea isn’t gonna sell “much”. The man is still rich, but no longer as popular. This is his way of trying to get back some popularity before he kicks the bucket.
I’m sure I’ll check this movie out on DVD. No way in theaters.
John Cena’s movie so could have been another Rambo movie. I was telling my girl when we saw the preview for that movie, how there hadn’t been any real shit kicking movies out in awhile….I’m looking forward to the Cena movie, and the guy from T3 and The Unit is in it.
I support Sly.
If he wants to dust off the boots of his glory days, I say “Why not”?
Who are we to judge what the Demolition Man is capable of?
Stallone was a god. If he wants one last hurrah, we owe him that.
For all he’s done for us, we owe him at least that.
What can I say?
I’m a sucker for the heroes of my youth.
Rocky
Victory
First Blood
Cobra
Over the Top
Lock Up
Tango & Cash
Cliffhanger
Demolition Man
the supremely underrated Copland
and yes… even the comedic gem that was…
Rhinestone.
Go ahead and lie to yourself… say you didnt like this movie.
Stupid… Yes.
Ridiculous… and then some.
Pure comedy gold… without a doubt, brother.
This man, above most others, deserves an encore.
Issue 1:
I don’t think that this is a good idea for Stalone. Older tough guys like Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds have had successful after 60 careers by not trying to pay the same characters they played when they were 30.
Look where Eastwood’s been great: Unforgiven, Space Cowboys, million Dollar Baby.
And while nowhere near as successful, Reynolds has aged somewhat gracefully into roles such as those in Dukes of Hazard and Boogie Nights.
Does anyone want to see Eastwood make a movie where he plays a 60 year old Josey Wales or how about him playing Morris Shaffer on a comando raid in Where Eagles Dare II?
Stalone needs to find some roles that allow him to age gracefully.
Issue 2: As far as too many pretty-boys in action movies. I agree. But there are to many pretty boys acting in general.
A good rule of thumb would be that no actor who has ever shaved his chest should ever be allowed to act in a movie or TV show ever again.
So, Sharon?
What’s your point?
Stallone is a good director? Hey, if you or anyone else said that to me in the 80’s after I went with my friends to see the popcorn pleaser “Rocky III” I not only would agree, but me and my childhood chums would throw roses at your feet and think you had good taste.
But then “Staying Alive” and “Rocky VI: The Flashback Movie” followed…
There’s a lot of directors who made a lot of films. Doesn’t mean they are all quality, or at least up to audience standards.
But I’m not so sure about him directing a “Rambo” film. “Rocky Balboa” I’m sold because of the first two sequels, and the fact that even George Foreman came out of retirement to take a few more fights before he sold portable grills.
Oddly, I will say there is one element of “Rambo” that might be interesting. Richard Crenna passed on a few years ago; will the Trautman character be given a “military burial”? How does John Rambo feel about his former mentor and only real friend gone? But is the storyline suggesting Rambo is the new Trautman, and he’s training a bunch of new Rambos?
…and while that Cena pic has a nice trailer, Black Guy, and that there’s a scene or two in it where Cena goes Commando, I don’t think it will be box office huge. Do I hope it will be? Yes. (Two different things) Because the simple fact is that there are a lack of these kinds of pictures (aside from maybe Bond) …
Yo, People! Ease off my man, Sly. Has he made some definite duds? Absolutely. However, “Rocky” was an exceptional film. And the sequels? Maybe not artistic gems, but fun as hell. Don’t tell me you didn’t love Clubber Lang?? Don’t say Ivan Drago wasn’t a bad ass.
Stallone DOES have talent as a director(although I will concede that he has not demonstrated this for quite some time). Now, “First Blood” was a bitchen’ movie. “Rambo 2″ was a good time. I will admit that I could have lived w/o “Rambo 3″, but was it that horrible? My point is this: if your a 30 something male, product of the 1980’s like myself, then you should LOVE these flicks. Stallone has paid his dues; let him be Rambo if he feels that he can pull it off. Will the movie blow? Possibly, but it could also be entertaining. Can’t a movie simply be enjoyed? As always, my ultimate reaction is this: can’t we at least give it a chance?????? Remember, happiness is a warm M-60.
Stallone/ Go see Rocky and Rambo again. And if you need Oscar winning depressing nonmotivational movies…go grab ur wheelchair.
Sylvester stallone is a great actor no doubt about his talent. Even though he is old for rambo, I do no doubt about him pulling it off. I saw Rocky Balboa on 9/10/07 and believe me he was awesome and still has that killer body. All that I am trying to say it that he might change the story and the action here and there and maybe get a stunt double. No matter what anyone says I say go RAMBO.
