First Look: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End Movie Poster
If you have been reading here for a while, you know that I love to see upcoming movie posters. The advertising behind this is just about as important as the trailers and tv spots. So imagine my surprise when I find a link to the NEW Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End movie poster
Now, dont get me wrong, there is something exciting about this poster. I think its mostly the best they can do without giving anything away. The poster itself is just the typical skull and crossbones that we have already been exposed to. So what is the big deal?
See the Asian characters top center above the skull? Yup, this means our cast is sailing off to the Orient. You know what this means??
PIRATES VS NINJAS!!!! (maybe even Elizabeth Swan in one of those slinky Asian dresses)

To be more precise, it should be “Wish you good luck, Captain Jack”
these films are ok to me, they remind me of the mummy movies, epecally this last one, cause it had ALOT of chesse in it. I hope they collect the 3 in a box set when it comes out to dvd

If you’re interested in keeping up with the latest on POTC, check out keeptothecode.com. This was discussed a few weeks ago on their message boards.
Although there are some of the usual teenage Depp-Bloom groupies that post, there’s some good info and pics that aren’t available elsewhere yet.
Looks exactly the same as the last POTC teaser. Bleh, the first was good. The second was boring, imo at least.
I think it’s a pretty good teaser poster..but I still think that the best poster to come out of the series was that first POTC poster with the skeleton steering the ship through a storm.
Am I the only person who could give two shits about this franchise? The ninja motif sounds exciting Rodney. I may watch if there are ninjas.

That’s reason enough to look forward to P:3 in my opinion. I think he’ll be an amazing addition to that cast.
And yeah, I thought P:2 was WAY overrated. not that great a film… but fun.
Also, it has two braids as a goatee on the skull. Captain Jack anyone? Mmmhmm.

chow yun fat is the head of the asian trading company i believe….they are pirates who have gone “legit” and monopolising the trading routes….something like that i think….either way I can’t wait
The poster does not spell out ninjas any more than it does samurai.
Why are ninjas the only thing associated with Asia? Am I missing something here?
Btw, by ’slinky Asian dresses’ I think you mean ‘cheong sam’. Best is bright red with dragons on it and slit to the top of your thigh at the side. =)
Okay, that poster’s okay, I guess. I’ll be more interested when I see new footage, and it had better be improved from the incomprehensible mess that was Pirates 2. The hair hanging from the chin creeps me out, though.
Ninjas are not the ONLY thing associated with Asia, but there is an age old geeky rivalry between ninjas and pirates. Google it, there is a lot of running gags about ninjas and pirates.
And Darren, the poster doesnt spell out ninjas, it says Good Luck Captain Jack. My speculation is based on my above and no where did I say it HAD to be as I said it.

I’m sorry, but what’s with stereotyping of Asians = ninjas and/or samurai? I heard the podcast and all I can remember are those terrible experiences that I had while working with a bunch of ignorant screenwriters who spend too much time dreaming about “oriental sexy women” and ninja fighting. You know, there’s a lot more to Asia than ninjas, which are specifically Japanese.
Anyway, there are pictures of Chow Yan fat in his Asian pirate gear on the internet already. I’m so looking forward to seeing it, just because he’s in it.

The Ninjas Vs Pirates thing is an internet geekery. It has nothing to do with stereotyping or assuming that all Asians are Ninjas.
Its just a geeky “what if” thing pitting Ninjas Vs Pirates. Who would win.

There are undead, seacreature-men and giant mythical monsters as well as a plethora of magicks that are unexplained.
Why not let the pirates face ninjas?
well ninjas and samarais are japanese, aren’t they?
and if they are in China, then it wouldn’t be right if they just stuck those two elements in there.
And its Pirates of the Caribbean, yet they are not in the Caribbean. Maybe they will help defend some Chinese merchants from some evil Japanese Ninja.

Gawdammit people, Hollywood doesn’t know the difference between what’s Japanese and what’s Chinese! Doesn’t anybody realise that!
They put Lucy Liu as the Japanese yakuza boss in Kill Bill for goodness’ sakes. Zhang Zi yi and Michele Yeoh and Maggie Q in Memoirs of Geisha are ALL Japanese. Any Chinese or japanese would state indignantly that we don’t look alike at all!
It’s kinda like putting a European actor as an American and vice versa.. We know they look alike, but somehow we know they are somewhat different.. The feel of it. Hollywood just haven’t reached the point of recognising this chinese/japanese thingy.
Do we really expect differently about this ninja/china thing?

Except for the very clear use of CHINESE characters on the poster. They also mentioned India a lot too.
