Rachel McAdams As Bond Girl?

The other day I posted a story about Thandie Newton (just a horendous actress in my opinion) snagging the bond girl role for Casino Royale. I was dismayed by the news to say the least.

However… hope may indeed rise again as new reports are suggesting that it may in fact be Rachel McAdams receiving the Bond penetration this time around (I’ve never in my life wanted to be James Bond… until this moment).

If this does turn out to be true, it would be magnificent news. Not only because I think Thandie Newton’s acting ability is just a hair above that of Hillary Duff’s, but also because McAdams would be perfect for the role. She was fantastic in Wedding Crashers and solid in Red Eye, she’s so flat out STUNNING looking that she could probably turn Elton John straight if she wanted to.

Here’s hoping this is true.

  1. So John Campea has never wanted to be James Bond till the idea of Rachel McAdams being cast came up?

So you have never fancied ANY of the previous Bond Girls John? :-O

Sheesh, I have heard of being choosey but…

All of us sudden your dislike for Thandie makes a lot more sense! ;-)

  2. Don’t get me wrong. Rachel is BEAUTIFUL, and I love her from Wedding Crashers, The Notebook, and Mean Girls, but is she Bond girl material, i.e. do guys whack it to her? I don’t really think so. She kicks ass, though.

  3. well i guess i should’ve added in the actual quote if i wanted credit ;)

i agree with some of darren’s thoughts. if they want to go the classy way, monica belluci would be perfect, and her hubby, vincent cassel would be great as the vilain as well. sadly his hasn’t got a hope in hell of becoming reality.

side point, but do you know of any other couple who can act well together?

  4. Heads up:

from IMDB/WENN…”Bond Begins Filming Without Key Cast”

“James Bond producers are still looking for a new Bond girl even though latest 007 adventure, Casino Royale, has already started shooting in Prague, Czech Republic. Pre-production on the film started last week without two key ingredients – a leading lady and a villain.

‘Crash’ writer/director Paul Haggis, who is writing the script for actor Daniel Craig’s first outing as superspy Bond, let slip about the lack of a Bond girl during a recent Hollywood Reporter interview. He says, “They’re talking to three to four girls right now. Every week I read that there’s a new Bond girl, and I call them (the filmmakers) and they say, ‘No, you idiot.'” Haggis’ announcement comes weeks after former Miss Italy Caterina Murino lost out on the chance to play 007’s latest love interest. She’ll play a smaller role in the new film. Angelina Jolie, Rachel McAdams and Thandie Newton have all been considered for the role of sexy Vesper Lynd in the new Bond movie.”

So it really depends on who they can get, and on short notice. I love Rachael, Bond girl or no Bond girl, she’s going to be a major actress in the next few years, and yes, by all means, see Red Eye. I’m sure the Bond producers have. McAdams could do comedy (Crashers and Mean Girls) Drama (Notebook) and now thriller (Red Eye) plus she’s pretty hot, and not just in looks.

But since I haven’t heard from reports outside of WENN/Hollywood Reporter regarding Caterina, I can deduce that once she was turned away, the ‘Hollywood’ machine went into full tilt, and there you have ‘names’ appearing left and right. I even heard something about a month ago where Jessica Simpson was a passing thought.

I think they may wind up with…you know, I recall someone on MB said Monica Bellucci. I say someone start a writing campaign. But at this stage, it will most likely be a new face, or someone helmer Martin Campbell worked with before (Catherine Zeta Jones? No, don’t go there)…but if Rachael says yeas and can fit this in herschedule, you won’t hear any bitching from me–or anyone else. She’s a wonderful actress.

BTW, as far as villians go, Monica’s hubby Vincent Cassell will do just fine…or Christopher Lambert. Yes. Christopher Lambert as a bad guy Bond nemesis…just think about it…

  5. This would be good for us, but I’m not so sure good for her. Bond Girls don’t generally go on to do much, but there have been a couple of acceptions and I think if she does do Bond (hehe =X) she will continue on to do good work.
