Actually I agree with the sarcasm about what MNS would say about his film, and I think it really is made for a more intelligent and/or willing audience. It might sound stupid but I defend it in the same manner. I think he is a diverse director/writer/producer and people stereotype him as only prooducing scary movies, when The Village was more of a serious take on society.
I found Lady in the Water to be very philosophical and intellectual, and I really enjoyed it. I am shocked that movies like Epic Movie weren't chosen and this one was

Lady in the Water was a complete turd of a movie. It was so bad that I wouldn't even flush it.

I agree with LOU. My wife and I both really enjoyed the movie. And I think M. Night did just fine in the role he was playing. It was a nice in-joke that he was playing a world-changing author, and the only reason it was funny is that a big deal wasn't made about it. It/he remained just another character throughout the movie. _I_ liked it. It was nowhere in the vicinity of the worst movie of the year, let alone the past 2-3 years. I like your stuff John, but you're way off base on this one, IMHO.

Has there ever been a better example of a cinematic lynching than with this movie? It seems like a lot of people had already made up their minds about Lady in the Water before it was even released. The vitriol expressed against this movie leaves me shaking my head in wonder.

MNS played right in to the mob's hands though. He could not have picked a better lob ball to be pounded away at.

This film is a delicate soap bubble of a story. If one is willing to go along for the ride the journey is quite worth the effort. I really enjoyed this and put it up with my favourite MNS film, Unbreakable.

Giamatti was excellent in this movie.

Big thumbs up.

Unfortunately Shyamalan will not learn from this. He is probably siting in stunned disbelief that he won those Razzies, followed by denial.

I can almost hear him now: "They don't understand the film. It's too far ahead for them. Someday, far into the future, after years of evolution have improved human intelligence, they will watch my movie and understand it. Then they will hail me as the genius that I turly am!!"

And his wife pats him on the back. "Yes, Night. That's right," she says, rolling her eyes.

Well, M.Night won't be pulling a self centered stunt like that ever I hope. Not only did the film suck, he sucked. Just deserts.

Hey SSS,

Bridge to Terabithia had HORRIBLE EVIL MISLEADING marketing. Made everyone expect a fantasy adventure movie... which it isn't...

But that didn't stop Bridge to Terabithia from being a good movie even though it wasn't what people were expecting.

Can't blame marketing. The marketing people didn't make the movie.
