Director of Saw 2 and 3, Darren Lynn Bousman, is coming back to direct Saw 4. This is interesting to me since I had previously heard from some people that Darren wasn’t interested in doing another Saw film. But, when the franchise makes over $400 million and cost about 32 bucks to make, then the studios will probably throw around the green a little bit more to entice the director back.
Yahoo News gives us this:
“It’s not often that a filmmaker is given the opportunity to follow a genuinely compelling character through two films, much less three,” Bousman said. “So I’m very excited about picking up the reins on ‘Saw IV,’ and delving even deeper into the Jigsaw legend.” “Saw IV,” is slated for worldwide release on October 26. The “Saw” series, which dominated the Halloween box office for the previous three years, has thus far grossed more than $400 million worldwide.
I’ve pretty much enjoyed the Saw films for what they are up to this point, although I must admit that I didn’t really care much for Saw 3. Saw 2 in my opinion didn’t get enough credit… but that’s just me.
Oh by the way, the picture is of Darren and part time Movie Blog Podcast co-host Serena Whitney.

Saw II was just plain awful. Honestly, one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen it theatres. It took everything that was creepy and cool about the first movie and ditched it.
Oooooh, big bad man in the group is the “real” monster here. Nevermind. I’m not speaking of these movies ever again! They’re a disgrace to the movie industry.
If we even needed a ‘Saw 4′ I guess I’m glad that Bousman has the reigns.
I like the first saw and it goesonto a curious list for me as i like the film but it features 2 of the worst performances I have ever seen…
Carey Elwes – who is hit and miss at the best of times so it isn;’t so surprising is terrible in this
but the man who gets added to my list of worst performances of all time is Danny Glover.
A truly embarrassing performance given here from murtaugh. I felt sorry for him but ultimately in my fantasy world where I run things I revoked his acting license and sent him to actors jail for the rest of his life. There was a last minute appeal from his defence by watching grand canyon before sentencing but his crime was far too severe to be let off. guilty as charged.
I liked saw 2 better when it was called cube….
and I didn’t bother with saw 3….
Saw was laughably stupid. Horrible acting. Horrible script. I was mildly entertained due to the fact that it was so ridiculous that it was kinda funny.
Saw 2 was absolute crap. Absolutely nothing enjoyable, entertaining or scary about it. We walked out of it an hour into the thing because it was so bad it was starting to actually make me angry.
I never saw Saw 3 due to how bad I thought Saw was Saw 2 were.
I predict I will treat Saw 4 the same way.
I actually liked the first Saw, until its cheating ending. Bad news I didn’t care much for Saw II or III. Which reminds me. If anyone has seen Saw III…it is my understanding that two very specific characters died by the end of the film? Or does this franchise become an actual, traditional horror film and a bad guy (or girl) comes back from the dead?
The only thing I can see is a gauntlet run posthumously, as a character attempts to save his daughter.
Ya, what Darren said. With Jigsaw getting offed at the end and his bitch, it’s going to be a pretty borring movie. Ofcorse I thought Jigsaw dyed at the end of the 2nd one. They probly will make it like he suvived by some mirical for the 4th, yawn.
I don’t really care for a 4th one cuz of how part 3 ended. That should of been the end of the series right there. Now they’re really just digging for money with this thing. I don’t see how they can top the traps of the 3rd one anyway.
But after the first one, the series lost about half it’s charm. The other 2 weren’t as scarry and became more of just gross out films. Also more predictable, I saw the ending of the 3rd one a mile away.
According to the IATSE listing it is being directed by David Hackl, the same guy who was the production designer on the last saw. I’ll try to find a link.
Man, some people just don’t appreciate a great horror flick when they see one! All the comments before mine are negative and insulting. Saw 1 was my absolute favorite movie I have ever seen, and honestly don’t personally know one person who doesn’t like or love the series! It is original, it is gross at times, but leaves a lot to the imagination, it has awesome twist endings that mess with your head, it is psychologically incredible, and since it’s a HORROR movie, I could care less about the acting. And honestly, outside of Elwes, the acting was fine. Don’t tear up a horror flick cuz of acting. (Though it’s more of a murder/mystery/psychological thriller to me, the acting doesnt take anything away from the movie if you just try to enjoy yourself and the twists and turns). It’s very suspensful, and I CANT WAIT for Saw 4. I am counting the days hours and minutes. I am not some weirdo who likes killing and gore. I am an intelligent person, and I like PLOT! This has a THICK plot, and the next two movies enhanced the plot tenfold. Anyways, just wanted to give the movie some props since it’s awesome, and gets way too much crap, especially from people who don’t see it and then talk crap about it. They’re all great. Go see them.
Im gonna have to say that i TOTALLY DISAGREE with all of the negativity about Saw 1,2,AND 3!!!….I ABSOLUTELY LOVE JIGSAW!!!….HE IS AWESOME!!!……i cant wait to see saw 4 either…..i know this one is going to be as good as all the others…but i think each saw gets better….and if theres going to be a saw 5….try to keep me in mind because i would love to be apart of the cast!!!….
