Sigourney Weaver Dashes Ghostbuster and Aliens Sequel Talk
I’ve got a world of respect for Sigourney Weaver. I truly stuns me that this woman doesn’t get more credit for her pure acting ability than she actually gets. Oh sure, a lot of people talk big about love for Aliens and such… but her really strong performances often get over looked. Oh well… I guess that can happen when you’re part of a massively successful franchise.
Anyway, there has been a lot of talk recently about Weaver and new Ghostbusters and Aliens films. But whilw going out and about talking about Avatar, Weaver dismissed any rumors about her personal involvement in them… or if they’ll happen at all. Cinematical gives us this:
Regarding [Aliens], fortunately Weaver tells The Desert Sun, “I love the character, but I think the monster, once they did the other film (Alien vs. Predator), which I never saw, but that really maxes our monster out.”
But what about Ghostbusters? Apparently, Dan Aykroyd is keen on doing some sort of CGI-based third installment. Well, according to Weaver, that’s not going to happen either; at least, not with her: “I think all of us are busy doing so many things and it’s wonderful all the films are so well loved and they certainly were fun to do. But I think if you do it right the first time, sometime it’s better to move on to something else.”
Now just because she won’t be involved in them doesn’t necessarily mean there won’t be more Ghostbuster or Alien films at all… but it’s too bad if she’s not. Ghostbusters without here just seems a bit empty to me. But I’m sure it’ll be fine. Oh wait… no it won’t… it’s a horrible idea to start with.

An alien film without her..no that would feel empty. As much as I would like that series to end on a high note, instead of that crapfest of Alien Ressurection, I think we should all let go of Alien 5. It’s never gonna happen.
But it about did at one point, once according to Weaver. And this is what makes me hate AVP so much more. Apparently, James Cameron was supposed to write the fifth installment. Weaver was, of course, going to return, and they were talking about trying to get Ridley Scott to come back. But Fox decided to do AVP instead of a Cameron/Scott-teamed Alien film. Of course, something seems odd about this story, because Fox would have to be pretty damn dumb to…nevermind..they did say that most of piracy comes from Canada..
“Get away from her…. You Bitch!!!!”
Alien movies without Sigourney Weaver are barren and empty. Although Resurrection wasn’t the best in the series, it certainly tops AvP just because AvP was a terrible waste of amazing franchise history.
As a HUGE fan of the Alien series, the next Alien film without Weaver just doesn’t feel right. It should have her and end on a high note, like Josh said. I think her character should finaly die for good in it, but in a very awsome and memorable way.
Now if it should be the end of the Alien series for good, I don’t know, but it should atleast finaly give us the end of the Ripley character’s story with the 5th film. Although I suppose thats what Alien 3 was suppost to be, but part 4 changed that. And cuz of that, because she’s been such an important, memorable character aswell all threw out the series. Probly as important as the Aliens themselves. I don’t think they should just act like she never existed all the sudden.
If the just get someone to replace her, she better be a damn good actress and the same age range. I bet if they hit her, Weaver that is, with an awsome script, that does end her character for good, she’ll come back one last time.
About AVP, yes the first one was just ok of a film, but the new one really seems to be shaping up to be closer to where it should be. Just it being an R rating and far and way Paul W.S. Anderson’s stupid ass (what the hell happend to him since Eventhorizon?) to me is a good step in the right direction. I’ve got high hopes for it, maybe I shouldn’t, but even if it doesn’t turn out to be THE AVP movie we’ve been waiting for, it should atleast be a good deal closer then the crappy first one was.
Well, at least she didn’t rule out “Galaxy Quest II’ :)
I’d like to see her do another film with Mel Gibson, even if Gibson is behind the camera and sober
I always thought she was terrible in the Alien movies. She wasn’t even all that great in the first one.
Now they’ve turned the Alien series into a low-budget eastern-European video game franchise. They might as well let Uwe Boll direct the next one.
The Alien itself, though, is an interesting beastie with a very interesting life cycle. A great movie could be made about them again, but probably won’t be. Ridley Scott was interested in doing another one until they did AvP. Now I can’t imagine him getting near the series again.
I never want to see the xenomorph/Ripley hybrid on screen again. The franchise died with the original Ripley. Ghostbusters 3 could work without her but not in CGI.
