I simply don’t get this. Kirk and Spock once again? It has all been done for fucks sake!!
I hate the concept and my anticipation just dropped to level zero with this news. And I’m saying this as a bigtime Trekkie!

why not make a ‘Star Trek Excalibur, or some other ship and another crew in another time – new, new, new! Don’t get me wrong, I love the original and next gen casts and movies (even the horrible ones) but lets see some of the other THOUSANDS of ships in the Trek Universe!

To prequel or not to prequel, to reboot or not reboot
I’ve been driven mad by the Movie Blog and how John Campea is right, then he’s wrong, then he’s right again, then wrong, now Doug is right and Doug won’t ever get his Klingon War Party moviw for fuck’s sake!

Enterprise was a horrible failure because of the people who ran it and the way they ran it. The first three seasons, where they stayed away from writers who knew Star Trek and did not accept fan submitted scripts (Which have resulted in some of the highest rated episodes in the three previous series) basically killed the series. In the fourth season, when they brought in some former Star Trek writers, the series was starting to become what it should have been in the three seasons previous.

Enterprise had lots of potential to be good, it’s too bad that Rick Berman and Brannon Braga ruined it.

As for the movie, I’m not overly certain that it’s a good idea to use Kirk and Spock for a new movie. Too much of who the characters are involves the actors that portrayed them. William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy are James T. Kirk and Spock and vica versa. Honestly, could you imagine anyone else yelling out “KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!” other than Shatner?

However, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. If they can pull it off, and have others portray Kirk and Spock suitably well, I’ll have to say I’m impressed. However, I’d rather see a movie about the Romulan War, space battles ftw!

I was going to suggest that this would be post education Kirk since Spock had already had nearly 20 years of service before meeting Kirk for the first time on the Enterprise.

However, I am more of a fan of rebooting the series and discarding ANY canon, because this series is SO deep in canon that it needs a fresh look.

Otherwise this is just another prequel attempt like the Enterprise TV series. Which despite its ties to the franchise was a horrible failure.

That sounds more likely to make it _harder_, to me.

In any case I don’t think a prequel is a bad idea, but to interest anyone but the fans I think they would have to rethink the concept, throwing continuity out the window. Otherwise this will just be a B5: The Lost Tales with a higher budget.

Besides I would have a major geekgasm seeing the original Enterprise on the silver screen!

Doug, if you read the whole cinemablend article you would have seen that the prequel is not about them at school but more likely when kirk takes over the Enterprise. This way they aren’t treading on star trek cannon.
