Ok let’s call a spade a spade here. I’m at Comic Con right now. I’m looking at all these amazing comic strips. So it looks like fun. So I decide to try doing a little comic strip here on The Movie Blog. But I’m not funny… and I can’t draw. Who cares? I’ll try it anyway.
The reality is that I’ll probably do it once or twice… realize I suck at it and that it’s not as much fun as I thought it would be… and then never do it again. But it’s the weekend, so why not try it just for fun?
So now I present to you, “Adventures In Movie Blogging” #1 (and probably the last one)

You know what, that was actually pretty funny! I’d vote for doing at least one more. (Although I still think Death Proof was decent)
Now you must do a strip about the ALLEGED Indy 4 flick, and a strip about how SMOKING HOT Kirsten Dunst is. I mean, she is almost too sexy:)
HA! That’s pretty good for a first attempt.
John, why is the red guy holding a hammer?
Hey Jeff,
Because the clip art had him that way. :P (Did I mention I can’t draw?)
Dude, you should totally include the hammer in the next one,…yeah I liked it! Or not…
Cheers brother!
John, if I had 1,000 dollars, i would pay you to actually hand draw a strip.
But alas, I am broke.
…I probably wouldn’t pay you anyway.
Snake Plisken is the man!
I feel pretty stupid right now ‘coz I really don’t get it. What does the Oscars shifting to Graceland have to do with Kurt Russell making any movie good? And what exactly is supposed to be funny in all this?
John, I’m bored – do you have a new podcast I could listen too?
I’ve been totally suffering from podcast withdrawls, I know this is off topic, but any chance one is coming soon?
Very “exploding dog” influenced… Nice first effort :)
The best part of the entire strip is the fact that the one guy is randomly holding a hammer. If you do any future strips, they should always include the guy holding a hammer.
You might want to have Doug write the next one.
That was excellent John. How did you create it?
Ok, I’m not trying to kiss your ass or anything, but that was pretty fucking funny! lol
good try but not really into it.
the only problem is the main part of your joke is based on a lie….death proof is fucking awesome
Haha, not bad.
and red hammer dude is right too – 3000 Miles to Graceland was totally shafted by the Oscars :)
Is it true that Steven Spielberg plans to make a film of the book Leonardo’s Shadow?

That was fricken brilliant! It’s even funnier cause I just had to sit through 3000 miles like last week! Keep em coming.
Have a contest, I’d win, but yeah…have a contest.
i liked it. and ’stick’ drawings rock!
The one in red is Doug right? I think you’re on to something with this John. Just dig through the podcast archives or think about all the things that have made you angry or laugh over the years and make strips out of them. We’ll read ‘em:)
Nice effort, but it’s a shame to rip off explodingdog’s stick figures–especially without giving any credit. Because I’m pretty sure it’s not done as an homage–otherwise, why is mr. red holding a hammer?
How can John give credit to exploding dog’s kiddie drawings when he was previously unaware of its existance?
ED doesnt have a copyright on stick figures.
Hey Benc
I’ve actually never heard of “Exploding Dog”. As I already mentioned in the post and in this threat, I can’t draw… and I used clip art. Those figures came from a free comic strip creation program and those figures were a part of it.
Hope that clears things up.
Pretty cool John. And Phil Gee, you always have great ideas. I’d like to see a strip with the red stick figure screaming “MY HEART! Has a Starscream shaped hole in it!!!”
Very good and very funny, Keep them coming
NOT FUNNY
John, I was about to say that your figures were straight from Sam Brown’s explodingdog. I wonder if he commisioned those clip art peices, because the coincidence is way too close.
Good first try, have fun with it.
The strip is funny, but you should redesign the stick figures. The ones you’re using now look too much like the stuff that Sam Brown does on explodingdog.com
John got it from a clip art thing…..
Usually clip art is all copyright approved and protected for public use for anyone that buys the program….
Dont yell at him… it seems like either a legit coincidence or that sam Brown designed the figures himself.
No love for “Captain Ron”?
blue is obviously john and red is darren and that is darren conleys 9inch hammer
