Description of Batman Footage at Wizard

By John Campea - August 13, 2007 - 11:56 America/Montreal

They didn’t do anything at Comic Con… but they did release a video for the folks at Wizard in Chicago this weekend. Here’s the description… just read it:

The footage started with a silhouette of a dark figure in front of one of Batman’s armored vehicles before quickly cutting to Bruce Wayne and Alfred delivering the brief lines heard in the “Dark Knight” teaser trailer.

“Some people just want to watch the world burn,” advises Alfred before the camera jumps to Batman in action on the Batpod, the new iteration of his motorcycle.

The action built up as the Joker was seen in full for the first time with a mess of white face, smeared red lipstick and sweaty, straggly green hair. Apparently, the clown prince of crime gets arrested at one point in the film, as the montage presented Jim Gordon (complete in SWAT gear) at the Joker’s booking, saying, “no prints, no ID, custom clothes, no tags.” The clown smiles with what appears to be blood over his face from the inside of an interrogation room.

Checking back in with Bruce Wayne, the billionaire playboy has a brief scene with Eckhart’s Harvey Dent where he says “Rachel’s told me everything about you.”

“I truly hope not,” responds Wayne.

The footage sped up at that point into an intense montage of action, featuring the following clips:

- The new batsuit rising up from a trap door in the ground and held in a chain metal case.

- Rachel Dawes (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal) close to an unidentified man either kissing him or being threatened by him as the camera rotates around them.

- The Joker and Batman battling in close quarters (possibly a hospital room). Batman throws Joker over a table and crashing into the ground while the clown smiles at him. It should be noted that the Joker was done up in his signature purple suit.

- Plenty of big, bold Batmobile action including a shot where the tank-like car drives through a wall of flame. In fact, flames were pretty much everywhere in the footage as it appears Joker does actually make the world burn.

- There is also a shot of a somewhat grim-faced Joker walking across a city street mercilessly firing a machine gun as well as a television close-up of the Joker laughing hysterically.

- Two major additions to the speculation that Two Face will appear in the film came in the form of a single shot of a spinning 50 cent piece and the final image: after the action montage has slowed down, the camera cuts to a bartender looking at Harvey Dent, whose only onscreen presence is his left shoulder and a bit of a reddish-purple scarred neck. “Dent! I thought you were dead!” the man gasps, to which Harvey replies, “Half.”

Holy crap… that last paragraph sounds amazing! I wonder if they’re release this on the net for people to see anytime soon? I sure hope they do.

Oooooh, I want to see that so badly! I just eat up anything Batman related.

  2. Ethan says:

    MY GOD!!!
I truly cannot wait to see this!
Joker in his purple suit, that peice with Two-Face.
Itr seams like they are getting surprisingly a lot done and fast. Maybe they will release the movie earlier than expected.

  3. Mozzerino says:

Really, what’s left to say about that movie?
If “Dark Knight” isn’t your most anticipated movie of summer 2008, there’s something wrong with you.
They don’t even have to release a trailer, this movie will sell itself.

  4. Thrawn says:

    Good news; good news.

  5. Mofo Toshio says:

My bet; the last shot of the movie is Harvey saying “Half” followed by a coin close-up. Roll credits.

I have no knowledge of the film and this is NOT an official disclosure, just my idea.

  6. Kristina says:

I hope Dent becomes Two-Face at the END. Multiple villains is a no-no in my book, even if it’s Nolan directing. NO-NO!

  7. Jim 22 says:

I’m not impressed. I thought Nolan’s first Batman movie was dull and incoherant. This one may be a bit better, at least not as slow-paced and dull, but it still seems a little “off” to me. The way they are portraying the Joker seems more akin to a horror film ala Freddy or Jason, than to the comic books. The new Batsuit looks ridiculous with the shoulder, knee, and elbow pads. Is he going skateboarding or something? There are too many characters and villians in this film, it will get bogged down (hell, Rachel Dawes should be killed in the first 10 minutes), not unlike the Schumacher efforts. The least Nolan could do, considering the forgettable non-score of his first attempt, is revive the Neal Hefti BATMAN theme. That would really liven up the film and give it a legitimate “cool factor” rather than the “rabid dork factor” it has now.

  8. Ray says:

Agree. Nolan is overrated as a film maker, and I don’t buy the hype.

  9. Savanna says:

I also agree. The character of Batman deserves so much better than the shit Nolan is shovelling to us. I still like the Tim Burton movies best.

  10. John Campea says:

Well, it’s really no surprise that Jim22, Ray, and Savanna “agree” with each other… since they’re all the same person.

Please dude, don’t write fake posts under different name to artificially make it look like people agree with you. It’s pathetic. Aren’t there better things to do in Pelham?

  11. Grave says:

Hating a movie is ok but hate it for the right reasons. Dont hate the movie because of a certain actor or director. I personally liked bataman begins. My first thought was the movie would suck but after seening the second trailer with batman upside down and scaring the hell out of the thug I thought I give it a look. I went to see it and I loved it. Had much better action than the tim burton movies, the back story of bruce wayne made me really like the charater where in pervous films bruce wayne was just a throw back until we seen batman again. The only thing i thought could have been better was more time with scarecrow and more wide shots of the fighting involving batman. Cant wait for TDK, it could suck but I have to see it before I rain down sulffer.

  12. CW says:

Begins is definitely the best of the Batman movies so far, in my opinion. Burton’s were ok but left alot to be desired. Forever and B & R were just plain ridiculous (though I admit I do watch Forever sometimes, because it’s so hilariously awful).

Anyways, I’m loving this descriptin of the footage. Hopefully the first trailer will be something like this.
