Lexi Alexander Talks About The Punisher 2
If you are one of the very few people who are eagerly awaiting the “exciting” sequel to 2004’s The Punisher, you can get your fill on the pre-production of the film on Lexi Alexander’s personal blog page.
Movieweb gives us this:
Director Lexi Alexander discusses the pre-production process of The Punisher: Welcome Back Frank on her personal blog. She also discusses the training that Ray Stevenson has had to go through to prepare for the role. She writes:
Pre-production to me always feels like the ride up a hill on a major rollercoaster, right before the big drop. There are suddenly little airplanes in your stomach and you ask yourself why on earth you agreed to jump on this ride.
By now, everybody knows that the new PUNISHER is a remarkable actor named RAY STEVENSON. I can’t find enough words of praise to describe this formidable actor and true Gentleman.
Currently he is staying at the home of his trainer and my fight choreographer, Pat Johnson. Johnson – the man, the myth, the legend – is, of course, responsible for the great fight scenes in Hooligans, as well as the boxing in my first short film, Johnny Flynton.
For the past few weekends, Ray has also had major Military training with a bunch of badass Marines from a company called Gunmetal.
I’m sorry, as cool as this sounds, I just can not get excited for this sequel without Thomas Jane. I’m sure Ray Stevenson is a fine actor, but honestly, the only redeeming thing in my opinion about the first film was Thomas Jane. Maybe if Lexi Alexander can make the next Punisher more violent and intense and not as tame as it was in the first film, then maybe I can get over the fact that hottie Thomas Jane is not in it.

HOTTIE Thomas Jane??!!?!?? John!! Seriously!!
A bad case of man crush you are having. :P
Oh dammit I didn’t see it was you Serena. My bad.
Ha, I did the same thing and then realized….
Although (with my masculinity firmly in check) Tomas Jane is one serious piece of man meat.
Its a shame he will not be in the sequel and I doubt I will actually see the next one even if Stevenson does a fantastic job.
My personal opinion, I think the comicbook-turn-movie genre is starting to peter out. Films like Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four, Blade III and Spiderman III were all more bad than good.
For as long as ive read comics, ive been more of a MARVEL guy than DC but I feel as though the reinvigorated BATMAN and SUPERMAN franchises are now carrying the torch.
I sincerely hope that the braintrust behind MARVEL seriously STEP IT UP.
@Naught:
Don’t feel bad I almost posted the same thing before I noticed who wrote the post.
Anyways, as much as I did enjoy The Punisher, I’ve thought several times while re-watching it that Thomas Jane was actually one of the weaker spots. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good actor but he didn’t really bring any intensity to the character. During the fight with the Russian and the attack on the club at the end of the movie, instead of being serious scenes they ended up coming across as comical and lacking any emotional zing. Jane, at times, seemed to just be walking through them, saying his lines.
Hopefully, Stevenson and Alexander can team together and give us a Punisher who actually deals out harsh punishment and doesn’t just torture people with popsicles.
Lexi Alexander = Hottest director ever?
The first Punisher movie was crap, but I’m really interested in the sequel now that Stevenson is Frank Castle.
But you gotta wonder why Thomas Jane pulled out of the project.
Did he want too much money or is the script just bad?
We’ll have to wait and see..
The Punisher was a great movie – i’m excited to hear that a 2nd one is in the works!
They’re talkin it up as if it’s gonna be the greatest, but you still have to wonder: if it’s gonna be so badass and true to the comics….why’d Tom Jane leave? That, my friends, is the warning flag.
I’m just glad they are making another one. I really thought this was dead in the water after Jane left. If Hulk can get a second chance then so can the Punisher.
when did Tom Jane become the mold that held the punisher down?
he was “ok” as the punisher he sure as hell didn’t define him. i’m personally looking forward to this film, because in all honesty if they fuck up this film it’ll prolly never get made agin
@ Steven
Tom Jane’s leaving being a big warning flag for me is not that he was the be all end all Punisher. (Hell, in the first movie, he’s not even playing the Punisher, he’s Frank Castle up until the very end when he decides not to kill himself. THAT’S when he decides he’s something else.) It’s because the man was dedicated to the character, he knew who the Punisher is, and how the next movie should be, and he obviously didn’t feel the script for the sequel was good enough…
Lexi Alexander isnt that great of a director i am kinda worried, i though the Green Street Hooligans had a great story line and was really interesting but she did some really stupid stuff that drew you out of the movie. For example her music selection throughout the film makes you stop watching and just go “why the fuck is this song playing?” I hope she doesn’t mess this movie up.
