Vivendi And Sony Team Up For Ghostbusters Video game.
It appears the NY team of ghost trappers will soon be returning to us in video game format. We get the scoop this morning from Variety via our amigos at /Film:
First title in what the publisher hopes will be a series of “Ghostbusters” games is set for release in fall ‘08 from Vivendi’s Sierra label. All four members of the movie team — Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis — will be giving voice and likeness rights for the game. Some supporting castmembers have signed up as well, including William Atherton, Brian Doyle Murray and Annie Potts.
In addition, film scribes Aykroyd and Ramis will pen a story for the vidgame that takes place in the early ’90s, after “Ghostbusters II,” during a new ghoul invasion of New York City.
I actually think the Ghostbusters would convert just fine into a modern video game, and think this could be a solid way to introduce these characters to a new generation. With modern graphics, the sky is the limit for the quality of bad ass demons, ghosts, specters and phantoms; and I want to trap them all….I also want to cross the streams!
Having the entire cast back is the feather in the cap, and to be honest – I am quite surprised that everyone is back on board. The crew had a fantastic chemistry and with luck, perhaps it can be carried over into the new format. I just hope that by having the cast – they don’t over do the cinematic scenes; I hate over done cinematic scenes in video games.
It will be fun to try it when it comes out, and If the game is good I can certainly see the franchise doing well. Perhaps we will see the return of Ghostbuster lunch-boxes!

The Wiimote was made for this game. On my wihlist
hmm hmm hm… ghostbuster!
This makes me revive my younger days!
Keep the oldies coming!
Is Rick Moranis or Sigourney Weaver in it? At least the main 4 are back. Still wishing it was a movie though.
I know there was a demo video being shopped around a few months back to which many people responded with great excitement, but was later shot down as 100% unofficial, no ghostbusters game was coming out.
Do you suppose the two are related? Or perhaps that one was shot down as not official, because someone else was working on the official one?
Everyone is gonna buy this, and it’s going to be hyped like crazy. I just hope to Crom that it actually turns out to be a good game. Because if that’s what you’re making, then that’s what the customer will want; not an interactive movie.
I am still a huge Ghostbuster fan and am really excited about this, mostly cause all the main character are returning. Bill Murray coming back, who would have thought?! Hopefully they can get Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis to return!
Now I just hope and pray that they continue to use the ‘59 Cadillac ambulance for the Ecto-mobile instead of going with the Chrysler 300 or Magnum.
Like Terry said, Doug. No Rick Moranis. No Signorney Weaver.
Hopefully, there will be Slimer…
Better yet…screw the game.
Gimmie a Ghostbusters 3.
They have to train new Ghostbusters.
Who you gonna call?
I’d rather have a new movie, but then again, this is better than nothing.
I think a game is better than a movie for Ghostbusters. The reason is cause 2 GB movies is enough Im tired of any good string of movies hitting over 3. Like for some reason 3 is a hexed number in hollywood. Robocop 3, Tremors 3, Spider-man 3, Pirates 3, Thats why I think hollywood uses subtitles for movies now. Pirates: At Worlds Ends, Alien Vs Predator Reiqum. Also a game is still much cheaper to produce than a movie and not to forget they have not made a good Ghostbuster video game yet. In VG world 3 is a good number lol.
