The first time watching this should NOT be on a crappy handheld youtube vid. That’s why I haven’t watched the bootleg full trailer yet. I’m waiting for the official version.
Vic
Hehe, that was quick.
I posted this in the comments section of the previous post 15min ago. You could at least say thank you, John.
Naa….just kidding, I pulled it only from AICN anyway.
Hey Mozzerino
Kudos for the link… but I should tell you I woke up to about 12 emails all pointing me to it. :)
Its hard to blown awya by something thats only half a screen and with crappy audio. But It was good though. I really want to see this in IMAX. I think the opening logos are trippy
Might have been the quality but it wasn’t really that impressive The Trailer was better
Do you think it’s possible that they purposely leaked it like this (with crappy hand held video, and the top of the guy’s head in the shot)? Seems like that might be in keeping with some of their Joker marketing to date.
I’ll be interested to see how quickly/slowly it gets yanked.
This was amazing. Gotta bloody love it. Joker is a smart, sick bastard.
If you’re waiting for the quicktime non-hand-held version of this, it should be up today at… http://atasteforthetheatrical.com/
Enjoy :D I know I’m waiting for the the non-shakey version myself.
Na it really wasnt as good as the trailer.Oh by the way,Screenrants right, seeing the bootleg version does kinda ruin it.Go see the official trailer before I Am Legend, the quality really does make a difference.Unfotunately if you’ve already seen the online version the theatrical version wont be as good.Although seeing it on the big screen is way better than online, after you see the bootleg you already know what to expect.
Out of couriousity,is Nolan gonna show a good Joker origin,Cause that would be disappointing if they didnt really show how he came to be what he is.In this clip it seems to be that Joker has just shown up out of nowhere.Although Im starting to think mabe they might use the flashback meathod that was so prevailent in the first film.
Sweet to me. Like watching a heist movie…but better done than most.

here’s a clip filmed on a cinema showing the trailer for the movie… enjoy
Very bad, on-the-nose dialogue. I’m kinda shocked.
@Seth Grimes
No sir, no origin, no flashbacks, no fall into acid tank; the Joker is just ‘already there’.
Some people are saying that this is the opening of the movie and some are saying that it is a seperate ‘prologue’ that won’t be in the actual film. What’s the actual answer?
In any case, i couldn’t wait until the 26th (when I Am Legend comes out in the UK) to watch this though i’ll be checking it out in IMAX anyway.
Of course they are going to explain him. Christopher Nolan, David Goyer and Heath Ledger has been stumbling over eachother trying to mention “The Killing Joke” again and again. We might get Joker telling Batman things himself, and if not that, obviously Gary Oldman will explain what the guy is once he’s in custody.
People went apeshit for Begins because it had a ridiculous amount of Bruce Wayne explanation, so obviously they’re going to explain The Joker.

I’m just losing my mind waiting for this movie (especially after that trailer) and, unfortunately, i cannot kid myself into thinking that i will restrain myself from watching all the clips and reading all the spoilers.
One interesting thing though is that all the posters and the trailer are just saying ’summer 2008′ as opposed to mid July when the movie is coming out. I’m starting to think that maybe WB isn’t setting that release date completely in stone and might bump TDK up to July 4th. Is there any giant movie actually coming out on July 4th?
@Henrik
No, Nolan has already said in interviews that he is not doing an origin story for the Joker. He said this movie is mainly about how Two-Face comes to be if I remeber correctly.
The trailer did more for me than this. Not terrible, but this footage wasn’t worth paying extra money to see in IMAX. Thank heavens for pirates.
great, six less minutes to look forward too.
omg i am loving this this movie is going to be kick ass and i can’t weight to see it and what iam relly happy with is the joker is the maine foces and there not faling into the trap with spider-man 3 with 3 villions
but can’t weight for july 18 2008
I liked the trailer more, but this was fantastic. Didn’t feel like a comic movie at all, which is good.
John, you’ve seemed to have already made up your mind about TDK. I haven’t anything but cynical comments regarding TDK.
Being the comic book/batman dork that I am. I want to see this but I am going to have to wait . I posting this comment right now but I am sure in a few hours . I may have to look at it.I am sure you guys will talk about it on the next podcast Blah. What is a fan boy to do ????
I liked the trailer more, but this was fantastic too. Didn’t feel like a comic movie at all, which is a good thing.
John, you’ve seemed to have already made up your mind about TDK. I haven’t heard you say anything but negative things regarding it.
Thanks for the info Phil, although Im kinda dissapointed now.
Salem
Why do you say that a comic-book movie shouldnt look like a comic-book movie.Thats kinda backwards isnt it.I rather enjoy when these films resemble the comics we all know and love.
Ok so I just got done watching it and is not that great. But yet this can also be a one of those DVD alternate opening and they just put this video on line for people to talk about it since it sounds more people care more about the Iron man film then this new Batman movie. I also think they are going to recall this film Why so Serious ? I am not buying the whole The Dark Knight name for this film.
It was nice watching it a second time. Watching in IMAX wins (duh), but hopefully they’ll release a HD version of the prologue soon especially if it is not going to be the first six minutes of the actual main feature.
I can’t wait for the hi-def trailer to go up. I have no idea when though. :(
In my opinion, it was worth the price of admission of an IMAX ticket. Those six minutes were much better than I Am Legend as a whole. Those CG humans left a bad taste in my mouth.
@ Salem
Dude, right in the first sentence he said “This movie is going to rule”. How the fuck can you say “I haven’t heard you say anything but negative things regarding it.” Do you even read?
What I meant by it not looking “like a comic movie” is that it made me forget for a second that this was Batman. I thought it was a movie like Heat or something.
I never said John was going to flat-out HATE it, but he’s been quite cynical about it. Look at his other posts regarding TDK. He never BLASTED it, but he’s questioned it, such as casting choices and designs.
@ Salem,
No dude, you said “I haven’t heard you say anything but negative things regarding it.” When in that exact same post he said “This film is going to rule”. And he hasn’t been cynical, he’s been very balanced. Just because he’s not drooling over himself like a lot of fanboys doesn’t mean he’s being cynical. He’s said good things about Leger’s casting, he’s said good things about the batsuit design. The only negative thing he’s said is that Bale looks too skinny.
I just still can’t believe that someone who can read would say “I haven’t heard you say anything but negative things regarding it.” when in that same post he said the movie will rule. Think a little bit.
Sean,
I still can’t believe someone is actually taking that this seriously. Calm down.
I think this looks great. I am so looking forward to this movie. I think it is so great that Chris Nolan keeps the thing so realistic instead of making it cartoonlike like in´the batman movies directed by Joel Schumacher.
Bah… I don’t think I’m going to watch it. Of course I’m really excited about the Dark Knight, but the first trailer from 300 I saw was a capture like this one and didn’t want to go see the movie until I saw the trailer again in HD.
Dude, I may be the only one. But Heath Ledger is creepy as the Joker, even on the small clip with him. He is going to rule as the joker.
This is terrible quality. I saw it in IMAX and it was much better, better even then the trailer! The opening sequence was great, and this bad quality really ruins the subtle things, also when they start showing clips from the movie the drums are SUCH a good effect. Personally this is my favorite piece of TDK thats out yet.
THIS IS THE REAL FRIGGIN’ SHIT! Not that bastardized JLA/American Heroes-whatever crap!
i dont know what you guys want, to have a good trailer…
that batman dark knight was perfect, it was the way it was supposed to be !!! beautiful and smart cause joker himself is actually smart…
I dont know what else you guys wnat but i think this could probably be the best comic film of all time !!!!
While I’m sure this is shot footage, I’m not 100% sure this is the “opening scene”. My bet is that it could be “footage” storywise “shot” by the Anthony Michael Hall character (who plays a media reporter of some kind). This might explain some of the shaky camera and the odd angles.
Or is it ‘part’ of the opening scene, as we see it on a (ha, ha) Computer screen/and or monitor?
The trailer is officially online in glorious high quality here.

Does anyone really enjoy watching these crappy looking, clandestine, copyright violating, criminally made, hand-held camera phone videos taken of the screen inside of a movie theater?
I don’t, and I clicked STOP on this one about five seconds into it. I can wait for the real thing.
Please…stop linking to this illegal crap. Not to mention that this medium is not in the form intended by the director of the film and doesn’t fairly represent his work and artistry, which is pretty disrespectful if you ask me.
We now live in a society of selfish, disrespectful individuals who put their own small-minded gratification over what’s moral and right.
Great.

“watch it before it gets pulled”
In other words, we know this an illegal recording and posting and that will likely, and rightfully, be removed as soon as it’s rightful owner files the necessary complaint with YouTube. In the mean time, too bad for said owners of this work…and copyright theory in general.
Obviously “themovieblog” supports this kind of immoral activity, so hey…go watch it!
Nice.

Nice speech Cufford. But the fact is most of us can’t watch this in a theater. I have an IMAX theater but it is not playing I Am Legend. Nor are they gonna release the prolgoue officially online. So you watch it how you can get it. Now step off your high horse.
Actually Cuford, it means we dont know. There is no way to know if it’s leaked, or released, or stolen. It’s on Youtube, so you don’t know
Cufford,
Better these trailers that people are filming than the actual movie itself. You don’t see full cuts of movies on here do you? Just because this site has posted a “sneak peek” of a highly anticipated movie doesn’t mean in any way that they condone the action of filming movies illegally.
There is a difference, the people are paying for the movies they go see, not the trailers.
“…we don’t know”.
And… So what if it isn’t available to you in your local theater yet? That makes it okay then to support illegal activity?
Oh pulleeze!
You can justify anything if you want.
Fact is, this is an illegally recorded version…period and everyone here knows it. And even this blog’s own words essentially say this “…before it’s pulled”. Why would it be “pulled” if it was legal?
Listen…I’m not on any high horse. But I am a very small time video producer and I do what I do for a living. And I have to fight illegal reproductions and distributions of my work every day. You think Chris Nolan who’s dedicated a good part of his life to producing this work would be happy that a shitty, crappy, illegally recorded version of his amazing work is being shown to millions of people? As if that’s how he wants his work to be viewed.
Some people seem to think that, hey…those big studios are making gazillions of dollars so who cares. Hey, I’m entitled. And if someone steals something from a store, walks outside and gives it to me, that’s okay because, hey, I didn’t steal it.
It’s a matter of principal. Clandestine recordings inside are movie theater are not only illegal, but immoral, and this site is supporting that activity by linking to this, which they clearly know is the case.
Now stop trying to defend what is wrong, just for your own selfish benefit.
Wait until it’s available legally and then enjoy it. Which, by the way, was but a matter of hours.

Oh Cufford, get off your horse. Answer me this. How do you “steal” something that is free? This is a trailer, meant to be shown to as many people as possible, for free. It isn’t the movie. It’s the promotion for the movie. No one is stealing anything. And for all anyone knows, WB leaked this themselves.

“Cufford, Better these trailers that people are filming than the actual movie itself.”
Translated: At least we’re only stealing a small part of it…not the whole thing! It could be worse!
Oh…I stand corrected!
I’m sorry.

Okay…excuses and justifications for this immoral, not to mention clearly illegal, activity.
Very smart people here. I’m impressed.
I’m also done. I’ve said my peace, and there’s no point in trying to further explain it to those who, for their own selfish reasons, don’t want it explained to them, so they can continue to support immoral (and illegal) activities.
All I can say is that, if you had made this work and it was your property being abused like this, you’d have a completely different point of view. Of course it’s not, and you don’t.
Morality is gone in our society today. It’s all “me…me…me”.
Signing off…

We all know that the Joker would probably be everyone’s vote for Batman’s biggest arch-enemy but is anyone more interested in seeing what will be done with Two Face since Tommy Lee Jone’s version was so poor?
After watching this heniously crappy quality bootleg version as well as the official online trailer version I’m not that interested in how they’re treating Joker. I’m sure Heath Ledger will do a great job playing a crazy but I’m much more interested in seeing the “reality” makeup job they’re going to pull off for Two Face.
Anyone in agreement?
Anyone heard how much Two-Face we’re going to see in this version or will it just be more of a “glimpse” as we saw of in the first film with a joker card and no more?
Hey Cufford,
I’ve been following the discussion, and to be honest, I have no idea how you can hold the opinion that you do. As Larry correctly pointed out, this clip is the PROMOTION for the movie. The clip that is being freeing exhibited in theaters.
By your logic, anytime anyone shows a trailer, then it’s “stealing a part of the movie” which is obviously wrong. Promotions are made in order to be shown to as many people as possible.
Showing a promotion is not piracy, no matter how indignant you try to sound. It’s just common sense. We didn’t steal part of the movie that WB did not themselves put together for promotional intent. Like I said… common sense.
But I guess “Common sense is gone in our society today”
First Two-Face picture!

I doubt it was “stolen”. Yesterday, WB worked their asses off to get the trailer pulled off Youtube almost instantly, but this prologue is still online. They probably did it themselves as a response to the outcry from people who don’t have access to an IMAX. My local IMAX isn’t even playing IAL, so I couldn’t see it. Even if they didn’t do it personally, they are letting it slide, so I don’t feel the least bit bad about watching it. This whole thing was nothing more than a money grab for WB anway, luring people in to see IAL with the promise of Batman footage. I’ll bet that promise added a bit to the massive box office this weekend. They had to do something like this to get people buzzing about IAL. Keep in mind, the writer’s strike has shut down late night talk shows, so the studio’s ability to send Big Willie out to whore it up for the movie has been severely hampered.
if anyone thinks for one minute that iron man is going to do better business or be a better film than the dark knight you are fucking crazy.
the director of memento, insomnia, batman begins
vs
the director of elf and fucking zathura.
if i was a betting man and their was a bet going on which film will be better i know where my money would be going and it won’t be going on the guy from swingers.
i like favareau but he is nowhere near the league nolan is as a director.
the people going crazy for iron man are on the net and net only….sorry but the average guy on the street not only is unaware there is an iron man film coming out he isa unaware that iron man even fuckign exists.
fuck indy…fuck iron man….FUCK SPEED RACER….fuck everything…next summer belongs to this film.
the trailer is out on you tube in good quality and it looks fucking insane.
and to the guy who complained about the on the nose dialouge I can only assume you have never read a comic book…
the line “i guess this joker is as crazy as they say he is” (or whatever the quote is) is on the nose and almost word for word the type of shit jokers henchmen say all the time in the comics.
I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS FUCKING MOVIE TO COME OUT.
oh its entirely unfair to judge this footage in anyway from a fucking bootleg as well.
sometimes i do think the net as great as it is it is definitely a double edged blad ein terms of being one of the worst things to happen to film whilst also being one of the best.
and for ther record i am judging my feelings from the good quality trailer i saw today before anyone accuses me of being a hypocrite…i started to watch this bootleg shit but turned it off..i didn’t want to see anything in shit-o-vision.
not from my most anticipated film of next year
cufford he has a fair point.
the studio want people to see it alright but not in the fucking unwatchable shitty versions seen here.
you have people judging it from this fucking handycam shit..and that is not what the studio want.
not at all.
ther studio don’t release handycam bullshit into theatres..this is not the way it is meant to be seen and i am glad the studio pull this shit down as soon as possible.
but if people are happy to judge a films potential from 6 minutes of fucking ugly bootleg shit then fuck them….
cool.
I’m not high on this film at all. It just seems to low budget to me, just like the first.
HEY JOHN ARE AWAKE?
THE OFFICIAL TRAILER IS ALREADY ON THE WEB!!!
GO GETTING!
bassturd!
Is that real?! jesus! it looks amazing.
i thought that was a pretty poor reveal of the joker myself.
None of the two face images circulating right now are real.
As for the prologue, I thought it was okay. It gives you a feel for the movie, even though its in broad daylight. I think Ledgers Joker is going to be phenomenal, but I also think there is a bit of “sleight of hand” going on here by WB and Nolan. I think that Two-Face is going to play a bigger role in this film than any of us think.
Ive heard Nolan say that Joker is the Joker in this movie, hes the bad guy but no origin, just his rise to super villainy. But Harvey Dent/Two-Face actually has a real character arc in this movie. We will see his downward spiral and eventual “turn”. And with Eckhardt in that role, I thin we are in for a double dose of goodness.
Bootleg MIRROR if needed: http://theluis.com/2007/12/video-dark-knight-6-minute-prologe.html
Nah it’s fake Colin :p. Sorry to get you excited…was wonderin if I could fool anyone like the other fake Two-Face pics fooled a lot of people. I actually worked on it some more and it looks more realistic now, the hair and glove and eye area still look too fake.
Nice to be in this company. Normally, Cuff, I might agree with you. Trust me- I’m usually one of the first to critique the actions of varioous film sites which posts up script spoilers and snapshots taken 200 feet away with a steel fence between them.
However, It is my understanding this footage is at a WB owned website?
The footage is also available for ‘download’- which means one can save it to thier hard drive.
(Did anyone read “The Gotham Times” yet?)
ok, not to beat a dead horse, but why did you tube “pull” the “bootleg” video if it wasn’t illegal at one point?
to me, this is very simple. the guy filming this is wrong, i don’t care it WB released an official version 2 minutes later. until WB releases the official trailer or faux opening sequence then you can watch it. it’s just a matter of principal
Cufford
Nice, you’ve convinced me,you put up a good arguement there, and I have to say that I agree with you.I got to hand it to you for standing up for somthing right.Good work.
Cufford
Dont listen to these guys who tell you to”get off your high horse”they’re just feeling guilty because they know your right.
bassturd,
You fooled me since it was first thing this morning! haha :) I really like it still! the drooping eye is an awesome.
