I have to say... if done well I might check it out; however, when I hear 3-D is involved I instantly assume it will be garbage. This was the first movie that freaked me out as a kid. I had nightmares for a week

oh, one more thing. As long as we're on the subject of remaking good 1980's films, hows a remake of The Last Starfighter sound? I think it would be awesome, anyone else?

I love the original too and while news of remakes of some films bother the hell out of me, like The Exorcist, a remake of the Gate with today's movie F/X and in 3D could really kick ass.

As long as it's scary as hell, the monsters look real, and the kids involved are in some fucked up situations, if not more fuck up situations then the original, this movie really could be great.

If it's not, then I'm gonna have to hurt someone. ;)

It would be better if it was The Gate 20 some years later, and they signed Dorff to tell a new batch of kids to throw The Good Book in the pit to shut those demons up for a bit...

I remember seeing this, on video (I missed it in theatres) and had low expectations, but wound up thinking it wasn't half bad. It was entertaining, the FX for the time were great...the kids were never annoying, and that big boss demon at the end was kind of neat too. Oddly, I never got the DVD, although one does not have too hunt very hard for it. Most folks can get in for dirt cheap ($2-$3) ...in checkout lanes...or in Best Buys/Circuit City markdown bargain sections.

The clear cheap clamshell cases wafer thin. You know the ones.

Lol, this makes me want to go find "The Gate" and the "Monster Squad" on DVD. Between those two and "The Goonies" they were my favorite childhood movies.
