Remake Of Christine In The Works

43m.jpgNews out today is that the John Carpenter film Christine is set to be remade. The remake is to be penned by screenwriter Christopher Landon: Son of Landon. We get the story this morning from FILMJUNK and the man known as WEB-MASTER gives us the following news on the screenplay:

He’ll reportedly be sticking a bit closer to the original Stephen King source material, which in his opinion was “more of a possession story than it was just a killer car”. Hopefully he doesn’t eliminate the killer car action entirely, because let’s face it, killer cars rule.

I could not agree more with the WEB-MASTER if they take the killer car out of the movie it will lose massive machismo. Possessed vehicles, appliances and inanimate objects are always more exciting than possessed people. Possessed people in film usually just look like they have mental disorders. If I wanted to see people with mental disorders for 90 minutes I would take a city bus.

  1. Don’t bother remaking a solid classic, no one ever gets it right. It is time for them to give us a prequel to Christine, explaining what kind of demonic possession is she brought into this world from, the extremely interesting and probably even more so gruesome tale of her first owner and the chain of deaths Christine caused in the 1950’s-1970 told to us only in hind sight throughout the original classic Christine film. Think how much more this would do for fans new and old, it would make more money for them all around in theaters and make new fans want to rent or buy the original film to connect story line.

  2. Are yal fucking serious.SUP with all these damm remakes.Well i can guess either their dieing for money r retarded and cant produce nothing new, they could at least did a part 2 r something..my god

  3. Due to the fact that the “Original” christine was made 27 years ago, I think a remake would be acceptable for the new generation of today. Therefore; they should keep the same structure of the manualscript and script by resurrecting the 58’plymouth fury.
If i were to write the remake, i would strongly suggest that they bring the two remaining stars from the original, Keith Gordon and Alexendra Paul, i think is her name; Lol, to have a guest appearence in the remake. They’ve earned the right to be in it. Those of you who would or will read this would agree 100%. What better way to remake a classic such as this, is to add a little classic with the new classic. Now, If they would only remake “The Car” which too is another great classic.
But, since the car that they used was a custom made, they’ll either have to get a differnt knid of car, or build one, needless to say; they need to remake it.

  4. I think that the real focus should be on the connection between Christine and LeBay. Arnie’s possession should also be touched on. Last, I think that detail should be shown to how Christine methodically murders all of the sh*tters who come between Arnie, Christine and LeBay.

  5. The car is now over 50 Years old and the movie will be 30 years old soon. Follow the trend and do a REMAKE and it MUST be in 3D. I can just see it now in my mind in 3D.

They remade animations like Toy Story 1 and 2 into 3D, why not movies.

  6. They can use my 1986 volvo 745 Estate with 749.000 kilometer first engine!

i hope the story will the same cause a young student with his own (evil) car is the best they could use with this movie

    1. What about LeBay (deceased) driving Christine, the “death mobile” with his wife and daughter, the hamburg scene with the dead dad daughter left on the side of the road? Nasty. Let’s “motorvate!” LeBay, Chritine is jealous of female family members! J

  7. Personally I think it would be a great idea to do a remake of the movie. I have just finished reading Kings book and also have a copy of the original movie on DVD.

Although without reading the book the movie DOES in fact work on its own, I personally don’t think it works so well as a translation of Stephan Kings original story and concept. The movie just gives shallow detail of what is really a psycological and very deep story of a guy who is often seen as a nerd and bit of a geek who tries to break away from the dominence of his parents and starts to grow up. In fact this whole story is about growing up..but with a horrific twist.

However, he unfortuantly ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time and is ‘chosen’ by Christine and LeBay as a victim of outright possession because of his state of mind and character…because of the way Arnies dominating mother has raised him. I personally think this story in this day and age can be treated well with the technology awe have got…and I am sure they will use a 1958 Fury as they would stay true to the book…The book has a better build up to the final horror that sets off in Darell’s garage and gives a better reason as to why the Christine moves on her own other that being some kinda demon.

Bands like Metallica and AC-DC should be involved in the soundtrack.

Make sure you’ve read the commenting rules before doing so) As much as I love this movie, I’d hate to see it butchered by using a modern car, or cheesy computer generated graphics. Christine is and always will be a 1958 Plymouth Fury. However, if they choose to use actual cars instead of graphics, fiberglass replicas should be used, it’s bad enough you can barely find these cars on the road today. But, I would like to see more of the haunting of Roland D. LeBay in the movie. No matter what though, I’ll always go back to the original. Welcome back Christine, come on baby please, don’t let me down.

  9. A nightmare on Elm street is also being remade. They are supposed to make a prequel, and then remake the series afterwards….Yes…it sucks. Instead of a Christine remake, would does everyone think about a sequel? Set In modern day.

  10. “Trucks” was not a Maximum Overdrive remake. It was the short story by the King that he based Maximum Overdrive off of. He just added everything going crazy, instead of just trucks. From a Buick 8 is also being made into a movie.

  11. Okay lest face it remakes usally SUCK! but a new one might be nice only if a “REAL” killer car, possesion sounds a tad-bit lame. You gonna hate me when I say this but a always thought Christine should have been a 59′ Cadillac but that will never happen. The remake might be lame but horror movies get “scarier” when re made so it could make a fun movie night with friends…

    1. How about remaking “The Car?” The vehicle was ugly as sin as just terrifying. This car didn’t like anyone, including James Brolin(1977). I’d rather get run over by Christine! Thanks. Jackilyn

No more remakes PLEASE !! There’s nothing wrong with the original “Christine”. It’s a classic.

If they remake it, I WON’T SEE IT! Remakes suck, especially if it’s made for Television. I’ve seen remakes of “The Shining” and “Carrie”. Both sucked and this one is going to suck.

I hate you Hollywood. Your writers suck! Trying being creative for once. WE DON’T LIKE REMAKES! This one needs to be left alone.

2009 will be known as “The year of the remakes”. Hitchcock’s “The Birds” is being remade by the creep Michael Bay. Pet Semetary will be released in late 2008. Friday the 13th and Child’sPlay are alsobeing remade. What next ?! Nightmare on Elm Street.

    Hollywood YOU MAKE ME SICK.

  13. i think a remake would be fine but killing more 58′ furrys? i hope thay do use CGI like some one on here said. perhaps if thay use a diferent car mabye thay should shoot a sceen where the origional christene is off in the back ground,it would make for some interesting talk.

  14. It was time for Christine to have a proper adaptation to the screen! In my opinion the 1983 film by John Carpenter sucks; he took from the novel only the characters and names, but the story itself has nothing to do with that movie Carpenter released. Let us hope this one does.

    1. I like the idea of a remake.I have read the novel several times and have seen the movie numerous times. The novel trumps the movie and if this remake follows Stephen Kings version correctly then we are in for a treat

  15. I hope they do use the plymouth and don’t have a ‘modern day mentality’ about it by using a car that is due to go into production or has just been produced. For me even if the re-make somehow does the original justice the original will still and always be the best, you can’t beat that car and the music they used was incredibly accurate for the movie,so fingers crossed they don’t cock it up.

  16. I cannot believe this movie is going to be remade. The original is an absolute classic and I don’t feel a remake will do it any justice.

If it ain’t broke; don’t fix it!!!

Thank you very much, corporate Hollywood.

How about some original ideas for a change?

  17. I for one have been a fan of both the book and the movie. I for one would like to see the book get made into a movie. Oh by the way Darren- it was a ’58 not a ’57. I would also like to see them use CGI so no more ’58’s get destroyed. I like the idea of Roland LeBay’s rotting corpse possessing Arnie- because it was sadly missed in the film. Either way the car still is the star and nothing will change that. Go remake!!!

    Kevin

  18. As a lifelong fan of Carpenters version (I was 7 when I saw the movie the 1st time), I have been obsessed with the ’58 Plymouth too. I have two of them and have wore out a couple VHS tapes, and own a few DVD’s (I keep getting them as gifts)… The original is completely classic. It worked just fine… Carpenter and Kobritz both said “the car was the star”.. If they focus on LeBays rotting corpse possesing Arnie, it will take alot away from what made the 1st movie great…
I hope Landon reconsiders his take on it, so the many enthusiasts that have kept Christine popular for all these won’t be disappointed.

  19. Im just curious to know what car they’ll use, it’ll be hard to top the famous plymouth fury! If they dont use just the right car, im sure the remake will be crap, but hopefully not!

  20. Carpenter’s film got stuck on the Christine ‘recovery’ scenes and as a result the posession of Arnie is too abrupt a la the Anakin turn to the Dark Side. Great opening scene though. I would love to see a remake.

  21. Hmmm….

Well, Someone better do thier homework, like…oh, FILMJUNK? (Yes, FJ. You!)

On a larger scope, what the writer said about Christine (King’s book) is correct. I don’t think the new film will work myself, but it *is* a book. In recent years, “The Shining”, “Salem’s Lot” and “Carrie” have been remade for TV and such (we could even count “The Dead Zone” series in a loose way) and thus, I have no problem with a remake in that regard. In fact, let’s not forgot, the first film was called JOHN CARPENTER’S ‘Christine’. I suspect this one will have King’s name in Carpenter’s place?

The movie strayed from the book for two big reasons: one, the ghost of LeBay, who takes control of Arnie (and the car for the most part) appears to Arnie at varied times. Carpenter didn’t want it because ‘American Werewolf In London” appeared in theatres a few years before. Second, and most important, Carpenter was working from King’s early drafts of the book, as the film was already well in production when the book was published.

Third, it’s only an adaptation. The movie by Carpenter (gee, a lot of his films are being redone, aren’t they? What’s next? “Prince Of Darkness”? “Starman”? That Invisible Man Chevy Chase movie?) has the essense of KIng’s book. Not to mention that regardless of Landon’s adaptation, King’s book is still there, and always worthy of a good read.

Filmwise, it’ll be a bitch getting all those old cars up to snuff; or are they going to CGI the whole thing? Will it still be a dark red 57 Plymouth Fury? How about filming the last half of King’s book?

Finally, who will direct: John Stockwell or Keith Gordon? Heh Heh.

    1. Christine should as mentioned, come back alive from her crushed self and kill Dennis and Leigh, Arnie’s parents. have LeBay in the film as a corpse, it is effective. But don’t kill Arnie.

    2. There was another film in the early 90’s possibly where a black 2 door car chased around a school bus and killed the kids. I cannot remember the name at all can you please help…? I’ve ben looking for this movie for 20 years now!!!

  22. Why?!?

    Dear Lord, Why…?

    Why hast thou forsaken us.
Why do you let these atrocities happen?

I’ll admit that the movie isnt much like the book, but it works as it is.
Just like the Shining. The movie and the book were very different, but the movie still works and is still a classic. Just like the movie version of Christine.

    Ah well,
maybe they’ll destroy it the way they destroyed The Hitcher. Keep those fingers crossed, kids.

  23. Will Christine be a hybrid? You’re right Doug, killer cars rule, but let’s pray they don’t redo Maximum Overdrive. Let’s keep that one dead and buried.
