Screamers 2

Peterweller-ScreamersWow…this news just proves that they will make a sequel to anything. It turns out that a sequel to the 90’s Sci-Fi horror flick, ‘Screamers’ will start filming this January in Canada. Peter Weller (a.k.a “RoboCop”) is set to return as Colonel Hendricksson and the film will also be directed by Sheldon Wilson. (The man behind the abysmal ‘Kaw’)

MovieHole gives us these details:

“Screamers 2” fixes on a group of humans from earth, including Lt. Victoria Bronte, who arrive on Sirius 6-B to investigate an SOS signal sent out from the planet, which has been supposedly deserted since the destruction of the man-made weapons known as “screamers.”
Once the squad arrives, they find a group of human survivors eking out an existence in an old military outpost, but more important, they discover that the threat of the screamers has become even more insidious, now that they’re able to morph into human form.

Really? Really? Do we need a sequel to this movie? I honestly don’t remember much about this movie. I remember Robocop, the dopey dude always on rollerblades from ‘Caroline in the City,’ and killer machines that made the Phantasm ball look wimpy.

Although, Peter Weller is kick-ass, his presence alone won’t make me pick this sequel up when it hits the bottom shelf on the DVD rack next year.

However, there are quite a few of you that could be excited about this news. So what are your thoughts? Are you excited to see another ‘Screamers?

  1. I knew that teddy bear was gonna create more problems. I seen it so many times bought it on tape and its still very good to watch. I always ask people if they’ve seen it if not I show them it. Really cool movie.

  2. Just like John said. After Aliens, Predator, Robocop, Screamers is one of the coolest sci fi movies I have ever seen! Totally underrated as practically no one has heard of it… but if you watch it for the first time without any expectations or prior knowledge about it.. you’d love it! I randomly picked it up from the video store one day with a friend, since the cover looked somewhat interesting.. and bang… a speechless ending. Peter Weller.. hell ya! Classic actor :) I hope it isn’t a short movie though… ty0pically what happens with sequels is that soundtrack is never as good nor is the environment made to be very eery as the first. Same case with aliens sequels and stuffs.

  3. ive been waiting for a sequel ever since the first one came out. peter weller is an amazing actor and could make the whole movie interesting even if he is the only one in it! so bring it on!

  4. I saw Screamers and was hooked, if you had the brains for it, I r’con it could be the next Halo only more like Humans vs. Screamer not Humans vs. Humans/Aliens, I had hoped the sequel would be a SEQUEL and would follow up on Peter Weller, because we did see him fly away with a ‘Screamer-Tedy’ in the cockpit.

  5. I’m a die hard fan of this movie, and am currently watching it now. I saw it on Skinemax for the first time when i was in high school and this is one of my all-time favorites. A friend told me they were planning a sequel, and this blog apparently proves it. I can’t wait for it to start out. i still wonder about the teddy bear screamer in the escape pod at the end of the first movie, but I guess peter weller survives if he’s in the second movie. BRING ON THE SEQUEL!

  6. this was my favorite movie as a child about 10-11yrs ago. i bought it for like twenty dollars (10 for shipping) and it was so worth it… i just got it in the nmail today nd watched it asap. i want a screamers 2!

  7. I Never heard of this movies… but i found it somewhere 2 years ago… and damn the first movie was realy great 1 of best movies i ever seen so i hope this 1 is just as goood i realy want 2 see it
    Greets

  8. Can anyone say “Direct To DVD”?
Right, I knew the int’l friends could.

BTW, I sort of recall (“recall”, ha ha) about the aliens being inside kids? I can’t remember if the character played by Jennifer Rubin got knocked off though.

I would see a sequel if she showed up.
In fact, I’d see any film where she just…shows up.

  9. I thought it was a great little low-budget Canadian sci/fi thriller (watch for Lennie Parker from “Earth: Final Conflict” in a bit part as the communications officer ;), and hope they do the sequel some justice.

    I’m guessing they’ll be using Canadian writers?…

  10. I enjoyed screamers as well. Its been a long time since it orginally came out, so doubt any of the younger crowd has ever even heard of it. So seems ill timed, but I would watch it.
