Simpsons Movie Almost Got an R Rating — Seriously

This news I found rather shocking. The whole time I heard that there would be a Simpsons movie I kept thinking, “What could it be about? Is there ANYTHING they haven’t done yet?”

The answer is YES! There is one thing they haven’t done.

MSN Entertainment says:

To make it on the big screen, you have to give people something spectacular. Something extraordinary. Something like Bart Simpson—full frontal. It happens early in “The Simpsons Movie,” when the animated 10-year-old takes a dare from his goofball father, Homer, to skateboard naked through the streets of Springfield. Hidden by plants and picket fences, he whizzes along, past kids, down hills, through traffic lights, until, in one shocking moment, little Bart flashes his little part to the entire world. Which may make this the first Hollywood film to show that kind of skin and to escape an R rating.

So there you have it. This movie goes over the top and maybe a little too low at the same time.

We get a peek at little Bart if you catch my meaning. Not that anyone was curious about it, or even WANTED to, but maybe that is why it made it past the cut.

Or uncut. We don’t know yet.

I don’t want to know.

  1. This is sad, Americana at its worst. Because the movie will probably not have anything more inspiring than what they’ve put on television, they’ve resorted to showing a naked Bart. The line of morality just keeps getting pushed further and further and further…

  2. Cartoon nudity almost renders an R rating, but the extreme and graphic violence of Itchy & Scratchy is suitable for children to watch during prime-time television. A sad statement on the state of the rating system and perceived moral balance.

  3. They’ve never gone to Ireland and if they did they’d have millions of jokes to mine. Family Guy did it and it was a little patchy. I’d live to see Homer’s reaction to Ireland or Marge’s.

  4. very true….i LOVED grindhouse (its box office numbers are criminal) for its originality and creativity….but having barts penis for a gross-out (?) joke doesn’t seem that creative to me…..just seems like they are trying a bit too hard for a reaction….its the simpsons and its a MOVIE, i dont think u need much more to get noticed…..just seems like a cheap cop out to me….

    BRING BACK FUTURAMA!!!!!!

    peace…

  5. THey are taking a risk in the first ten minutes, and i like when movie makers take risks, for better or for worse
look at grindhouse, it doesnt look like hollywood will want to produce anything like that again, but i loved the new idea
too many ideas keep getting used over and over. I like originality, and if it is a cartoon drawing of bart’s penis, so be it.

  6. why? why show something like that and risk the MPAA…..think about the series has had plenty of yellow ass but who wants to see the cartoon penis of a fourth grader….cant really see how that scene could be funny….but it is the simpsons so you never know….

    peace…

  7. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
that makes me want to see this movie even more, not because i want to see the penis, more because i want to because the simsons is a great cartoon, and i hope the movie is the end of this cartoon to go out with a loud bang, and that is the loud bang.
i wonder what color the “thing” is gunna be…
