Tekken The Movie Lands Director

TekkenIt looks like Tekken is next up to bat for a movie adaptation. We get the news of this project from the professionals at Variety:

Dwight Little has been set to direct “Tekken,” a futuristic martial arts actioner based on the bestselling Japanese vidgame from Namco.
Little, who last directed “Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid” and “Murder at 1600,” has directed martial arts pics before, including “Rapid Fire,” starring Brandon Lee, and the Steven Seagal starrer “Marked for Death.”

“The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people,” Little told Daily Variety. “It’s a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline that it provides the template for a martial arts spectacular.”More than one option

Holy crow heads! I am not excited about most video game adaptations, and I was not a huge fan of Tekken (it was ok) but how awesome is it that they got the director from Marked for Death! This dude needs to cast Segal as one of the characters. I do not care if you dress him up as one of the girls, I just want to see the Marked For Death Posse back together – kicking ass!

Fighting games may be among the best when it comes to movie adaptations. As long as you include the characters, and have them punch each other; you really have a blank check with the story. I am not sure I am thrilled about another story where a rebel rises up against “The Man.” I would prefer a movie about a fighting tournament where the participants enter for the thrill of victory and to build their legend. What would you guys like to see in a Tekken film?

  1. have watched the cast clip- like chiaku kuriyama would add cred to the ling xiaoyu character. jin kazama looks great too, hows the martial arts? also who are the tekkenshu warriors? are they involved in the story somewhere? who is yoshimitsu? where does he appear? (sequel character, hmm?)

great actor for heihachi? i reckon so.

  2. NO NO NO:THIS TEKKEN MOVIE IS AFAILURE.

Tekken live action movie is going to be a faliure with director Dwight Little and screenwriter Alan McElroy have screwd everything up on the Tekken story with Tekken Corp and a set in the future, this is rubbish and not true and the movie will be filmed somewhere in US and Japan.
Sega’s Virtua Fighter series would be going to live action movie based on the story from Virtua Fighter 5 set in the future where a fighter joins other virtua fighters
in the battle against the evil forces of J6 to save Virtua city.
Tekken will not be a good movie it should be thrown in the bin.
    Thank you.

  3. Although i feel that remaking fighter genre games such as Tekken and Street Fighter into movies are great, we must remember how sorry Hollywood is at completing this task. Most of the time they resort to 3D imaging as seen with the Final Fantasy movie. This seems like the best route for movies that contain such imagination, because realistic remakes always crash and burn…

  4. I always played Tekken, but stopped at..5…got too expensive. Still, I think there is a story here, the one dealing with Kazuya Mishima…

Do I think Yoshimitsu would look bad ass on screen? Yes.

Would I like to see Power Jacks/Machine Gun Jack? Yes.

    Fire breathing Orge? Damn skippy!

    Bryan Fury? You Bet.
    Christie Monteiro? Sweet.

Panda/Kuma? Uhhh…I’ll get back to you.

    *******

I think it’s hit or miss myself. Overall, it would be a miss.

  5. Nice!! I love the Tekken games.Theyll probably mess it up,but still.

I was actaully thinking just the other day:How cool would it be if a “Soul Caliber” movie were to be made.Seriously!!!That would be awesome.Probably will never happen;but,it’d still be cool.

  7. This movie was actually be done already. A Hong Kong movie named Avenging Fist(Legend of Tekken)was made in 2001. Starring Sammo Hung, Ekin Cheng and Yuen Biao, all threee are super stars in Hong Kong cinema. It was a big budget special effects movie. It was OK movie.
