The Gathering

My friend Michael over at MoviesOnline gets all the movie posters. This one jumped out at me for some reason. It’s a poster for the new Christina Ricci movie “The Gathering”. It’s a simple poster with nothing much to it, but I find it striking for some reason I can’t explain. Here’s a synopsis of the film:

While going to the town of Ashby Wake, the drifter Cassie is hit by a car driven by Marion Kirkman and loses her memory. Marion invites Cassie to stay in her huge old house with her family, while recovering from the trauma.

Cassie becomes very close to Michael, the young son of Marion`s husband Simon Kirkman. He is researching a recently discovered buried church from the First Century, with images of the crucifixion of Jesus and many anonymous persons watching it.

Cassie starts having visions and premonitions with some locals, and decides to investigate the weird and nasty mechanic Frederick Michael Argyle. Her findings about who she is and the mystery relative to the locals and the town surprises her.

You know what, that actually sounds pretty cool to me. I’ve got a lot more interested in Ricci since her role in “Monster”. I’m curious to see this one. It was done back in 2002 but gets released on DVD on January 30th.

  1. Hey, just for once, I have seen this movie before you guys.
It’s not a masterpiece, but it catches you. Her character is strong as “Reed Richards” is in it. Some distubing scenes followed me for days.
    I liked it a lot.

  2. i’ve seen the movie once, and i must say that it sucks more ass than a six-legged kangaroo in a honeymoon-suite together with three kilos of cheeseburgers and the ghost of ed wood.

  3. I agree with Marina, while Ricci has great talent she always seems to get the wrong roles. I enjoyed Monster and The Gathering sounds intresting but it’s going right to DVD so what does that say about the movie and where it takes her? I not really intrested in Black Snake Moan BUT I hope it catches me off hook!

  4. I’m torn on Ricci. I’ve always been a fan of her work and particularly her choice in roles but over the years, she’s been involved in some super crappy horror/thriller flicks and I’m just not sure why. She has amazing talent and it seems such a waste to see her in these crappy and forgettable flicks.

I hope her career gets back on the upswing because over the last few years and apart from “Monster”, most of her flicks have been direct to DVD (or so it seems).
