Hey there folks. Sorry for the lack of podcast the last 2 weeks, but as you’ll hear in the podcast, I’ve been down in Los Angeles so we’re doing one today instead. We’ll be back to our regular Monday schedule next week… although we’ll probably do another podcast this Friday too.

At any rate, thanks take some time to download or stream this installment of Uncut as Doug and I discuss:

1) TMB moving to Los Angeles

2) The 10 Worst Films of the Year

3) The 2007 Movie Blog Awards being named

4) Peter Jackson is on as a Producer for The Hobbit

5) Actors just taking the pay cheque

6) The Rite

All this and a few things more.

  1. mkfreak2 you are so right. zodiac is a fucking great great film.

john…i can’t remember what thread we were talking about golden compass on but i remember that we were and i claimed they were selling it as the new lord of the rings and you said that they weren’t…..

now i just saw the trailer again last night and as the captions talk about the fact new line took us to middle earth they have on screen, literally, a gold ring literally into a golden compass….

do you seriously not see that as selling this as the new lord of the rings? that goes beyond “from the people who brought you lotr”

again….they have a ring literally turn into a compass. it doesn’t get much more clear that that….i mean they were also the studio that distributed dungeons and dragons…why not mention that..hell they released the house party series and austin powers..why not tout those too?

they sold it as the new rings. plain and simple.

  2. Zodiac is hands down the best film of the year. Expecting Se7en or Silence of the Lambs were you? Zodiac is a different kind of thriller. It’s a movie that sits back and just tells a story from multiple perspectives and manages to thoroughly entertain and keep attention. It doesn’t actually focus on the Zodiac killer himself, but on the people effected. It’s a look at obsession and it’s consequences on our lives. It’s a very deep character study. For a 2 hour 40 minute movie, it felt to me like only 90 minutes. It was THAT good.

But I’m glad to hear you guys giving so much praise to Gone Baby Gone and Eastern Promises, my second and third best films of the year.

As for your worst of list, I quite enjoyed Number 23. Why the hell wasn’t Epic Movie on the list of worsts?

I’m wondering why Hot Fuzz, Shoot ‘Em Up, The Simpson’s Movie, and Planet Terror weren’t even mentioned in the “Best Of” segment. In terms of pure enjoyment, these were at the top of the list for me.

  3. Keep those benefits! Be careful, That neighborhood can get rough. But it’s a lot better than it was five years ago.

Funny about your Star Wars mememory.. when they did the re-release of IV we all went to the one am show there.

IT was a childhood dream come true.

Also check out the Vista theater on Hollywood and Sunset when you get a chance… a true classic well kept theater. Ed Wood used to live in it.

  4. Hey guys, great to see you podcasting again.

You guys should add a podcast subscription button for the Zune Marketplace. I have a zune and they just added podcasts to the service, and i’d love to be able to subscribe to you guys through there.

    Keep up the great work!

  5. And I have to throw out The Mist as the best horror film of the year. I know John and Doug found it disappointing but for me it rocked and captured the short story perfectly.

  6. You guys rock. I’ve just listened to your show for the first time and am thoroughly amused. I lived in LA for 4 years and I’d like to offer you a suggestion: The Velvet Margarita. Best mexican in town, followed by LaCabana. My one comment about your show is about Terminator star Christian Bale. While I too think that Bale is by far one of the best actors of our generation let’s not forget the utter rubbish that was the film EQUILIBRIUM. Bale can DEFINITELY make a bad movie. No matter how earnest his acting was in that piece of steaming dung he could not write himself out of the ass-achingly bad script he signed on for. Matrix it was not.

  7. John… Ellen Page is 20 years old. But I can see why you could mistake her for a ‘child actor’ considering she’s about 5 foot 1.
On a side note, you should check her out in ‘Hard Candy’ and ‘The Tracey Fragments’ if you get the chance. She does a really great job as a leading lady in both of those movies too.

  8. Lol, Gio, Gio, the ‘ferris wheel’ you refer to in Fantastic Four 2 is called ‘The London Eye’ just to give you a clue that it might not be located in France. It’s one of our top tourist attractions (not saying much but there you go).

I’m glad you’re going to talk about all the Batman stuff next time since that’s what the rest of us have been going crazy over since Friday. I’d love to know what you guys thought of the trailer.

    Welcome back TMB: uncut.

  9. Great to see you guys back doing the podcast. Just so you know, the name of the 200m American sprinter is Michael Johnson, not Michael Smith. You probably mistaken the name from the Canadian decathlon athlete.
