Transformers 2 Fast Tracked

Transformers was a wonderful, exciting, damn near perfection for a popcorn blockbuster type of movie that I personally just can’t get enough of. So much fun… and no matter how many times I see it, every time Optimus Prime comes out of that mist, transforms for the first times and say “My name is Optimus Prime”, I feel like I should be kneeling or something.

Why Paramount had been dragging their heels on getting things rolling for the development of Transformers 2 is totally beyond me, but it does appear that things for Transformers 2 have shifted into high gear and they’re rapidly getting ready to go into production. Steven Spielberg spoke about the preparations with the good folks over at IGN:

Transformers 2 is rapidly being prepared for production. Spielberg, who executive-produced the first film, said that the story will be going out within the next 30 days.

Spielberg said that the producers want to get the film going before the possible Writer’s Guild strike occurs. Speaking from the set of Indy IV, Spielberg also said that Le Beouf will be returning to the role of Sam for “multiple” Transformers films.

I’ve been very skeptical about Transformers 2 chances of being able to complete filming before the dreaded strike deadline… but it seems that everything is moving at a decent pace now. For those of you who fear they are “rushing” it, they’re not. If they really are at the point they say they are now, then they have plenty of time to do this properly. Remember… the movie doesn’t have to be finished by June… just the filming… they can take their good sweet time with post-production, and if I remember correctly, they shot the first Transformers in under 4 months (most films shoot for about 30-45 days)… so they’re ok for time. Thanks to Ty for the heads up.

  1. (Type your commnet here. Make sure you’ve read the commenting rules before doing so)all u people who dont like transformers are probably the ones that were playing with g.i. joes cause u were not gifted enought to understand how to transform a transformer.and then u grew up and played high school football and lost all sight of your imagination, the only reason you you probably watched the movie was cause u thought it was tha cool thing to do ,and i know when tha second movie comes out ,i know better than anything that all you hatters are going to watch the movie ,and you cant hide it ,you all confide in transformers ,and you all wish that the car you drove was a transformer ,so the next time u want to trash a movie try thinking about what ppl might look at you and think, none of u have the money to make a 6 million dolllar movie and none of u can do any better all it is ,is that none of u have anything better to do with your lives than blog so get off your parents computer and do somethink creative other than making stupid statements about transformers the best fucking movie ever, and the sequal ,thank u and good bye

  2. what!?!?!? how does transformers suck!? go to hell and die man! ur going to watch the secound one anyways and u kno it! i cant wait!!! i hope sounwave, hotshot, radimus prime and grimlock are in it. and hey! barricade never ACTUALLY die in the first movie right?

  3. For those who enjoyed this movie, in what way could a sequel be worse, I’m not trying to be vicious or anything, I’m glad other people could enjoy something I couldn’t, but with an inevitably larger budget, you will see more Transformers action which is the only thing that truly matters, right?

  4. I just hope they improve on certain things in the movie.

    1. Make the story better and try to avoid all out stupid things like going into the City where lots of people can die and then at the end of the pretend like oh no there were no 60 foot robots fighting. I mean how the hell can they keep that a secret? I am sure someone there took a freaking picture.

    2. Improve the acting…there were some talented actors in this movie that just gave horrible performances and yes John Voit was one of them.

    3. Get a new composer because Steve Jablonsky has shown he has talent but mostly what he did for Transformers is take cues from other Hans Zimmer scores. The most notable of which was Batman Begins and I don’t want to hear that again in Transformers 2.

    4. For Michael Bay to go watch The Rock and try to remember how to make a solid action film with a decent stroy behind it.

  5. Not to mention that you couldn’t tell what the hell was going on during that giant clusterfuck robot battle at the end. I saw it in IMAX, and even on a giant crystal-clear screen, I still couldn’t tell who was fighting who at times.

  6. The weakest part of the film for me was the battle between megatron and prime I expected so much more it seemed like half of the time they were fighting the movie was going to some other story arc like the soldiers.

  7. all they really need to do is focus more on the fuckin robots and not on horribly corny melodrama…..and get rid of so many lead human characters….better pacing….better story…..director that doesnt use corny 80s action cliches…….

  8. @krazie

I know the first one had MAJOR problems, but there’s always room for improvement, as well as room for dropping the ball. HARD. As much as the original had problems, can you imagine if those problems MULTIPLIED for part 2? No good ever came out of rushing things. I’m concerned. This franchise can’t hold SW or LOTR’s jock, but it does have the potential to be a fun franchise, IF they play their cards right.

And throw in Lazerbeak for Nagy.

  9. Its not like the first film was a great movie so I doubt the sequel will be weaker than the first movie. Transformers was a fun film but I found it very stupid at times and not to mention the acting from some of the more talanted actors was very poor but other than that it was a fun film lol. The script to the second film is prolly just going to be very simplistic and it wont be very complicated so even if they do rush the movie I really doubt that it will be a weaker movie than the first one.

  10. You have to look at how fast Spielberg was able to do War of the Worlds to stop doubting the man. Even though he isn’t directing this flick, he’ll push Bay hard enough to have the movie on the screens by 2009.

Anyway, let’s wait and see !

  11. FROM WHAT I HERE IN THE VIDEO GAME WORLD, THEY PRETTY MUCH HAD THE SCRIPT DONE BEFORE PART 1 CAME OUT…..I THINK THEY WERE JUST WAITING FOR THE TOTAL TO REACH OVER A CERTAIN AMOUNT CAUSE THERE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SOME OVER THE TOP THINGS GOING ON IN PART 2.
AND NO THEY WERE NOT RUSHING THIS IM PRETTY SURE THEY ALLREADY HAVE A COUPLE OF SCRIPTS WRITTEN OUT FOR A 3RD TOO. PRETTY MUCH VIDEO GAME CO. GET THIS INFO LONG BEFORE HAND DO TO THE POTENTIAL EARNINGS THE FRANCHISE CAN MAKE OFF THE GAMES…SAY AN EXTRA 200 MILLION. AND WOW WHAT SCHOOL U GO TO KRISTINA THATS CRAZY!

  12. This movie is so insanely popular. My school is having a Transformers event on the 16th. We’ve managed to get some of the cars from the movie and they will be on display at school, we’re giving away TF DVDs, and we’re gonna screen the move six times that week. Yay!

  13. Hey John,

If Transformers 2 gets all of the filming done before the Guild Strike date, is there a possibility that we will get an earlier release date than July 2009? And another question, since you were so dissappointed with Spiderman 3, are you a little concerned that the following Transformers sequels will be train wrecks as well? (I happened to think Spiderman 3 was a decent film, though.)

  14. I feel exactly how you feel about the first film. I saw it twice at the Archlite Dome in Hollywood. And the only reason I only saw it twice was because the only way I wanted to see that movie was in the best theater possible and I’ve been all over the country and the Archlite is by far the best, especially when you see a film in the Dome. DAMN.

But yea that movie was PERFECT in my eyes. If Transformers could be made any way, THAT was the way to go.
