Golden Globes Cancelled

By Rodney - January 7, 2008 - 21:18 America/Montreal

Serena posted earlier about how the SAG put their foot down and announced that their members would not be attending the awards if NBC airs the show as planned. Well late today we get an update to that threat and it looks like tyranny wins again.

The Offical Golden Globes Website reports:

the recipients of Golden Globe Awards in 25 categories will be revealed during an hour-long HFPA press conference at The Beverly Hilton to be covered live by NBC News beginning at 6:00 pm PST on January 13.

So the show is officially cancelled, but the awards will still be given out. The closest thing we will get to a show is the press conference with the official announcements. Hardly the same anticipation and buzz, but then I found the awards shows themselves to be pretty drawn out anyways.

I feel it is important to give out the awards. Despite the strike and the tomfoolery attached, these actors and writers did earn these awards. Perhaps another set of awards for asshattery should be given out, but I am not naming any nominees.

Good! That’s the way it was years ago and I hope it stays that way…

Dude, they are gonna piss off their remaining viewer…

Important that they give out the rewards?! Rubbish! It’s important that they be given out for the Golden Globes to hold on to any shred of integrity and value they may or may not have, and not to reveal that they are purely the hollow entertainment that they are. But it is far from important that the writers and actors to receive these awards. Awards are merely a perk, a bonus, a bit of fun, especially the golden globes. Any actor or writer or whomever that feels otherwise is unfortunate.

    This shit is beyond ridiculous.

Will the Oscars be cancelled? That’s what people should be looking out for. Nobody really gives two shits about the GGs, truth be told. How many times do you see “Golden Globe nominee so-and-so!” in trailers?

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE STEVEN SPEILBERG AWARD!!?? Like… he’s only my fav director ever and i had the night booked off from work like i do every year and i pay my money to go see these movies in theaters unlike some lazy lowlifes who downoad off the internet and thats part of the reason for the strike.. but kristina is right… the oscars are whats important so i hope this rubbish is cleared up by then. its sucha rich industry i dont understand what the problem is?

This doesn’t bode too well for the Academy Awards. Hopefully ABC has a different deal than the one NBC had with the Golden Globes.

At least the Critics Choice Awards were on recently. That was sort of entertaining and good enough to fill the void of the Golden Globes.

Well, that’s sad. I always watch both the Golden Globes and the Oscars and the GG are always entertaining. I think it may have to do with the copious amounts of alcohol the stars imbibe during the show.

Let’s play, “Other jobs in Movie Making, Not Related To Writers”: Other people who need their jobs and income.

Just off the top of my head with cheating and looking at IMDB. Point is a lot of people do this for a living and
need their paycheck. Just as well have the MOVIE UNION
and have everyone go to strike at the same time, since that is how the unions want it. Stupid.
