Let's face it, this was done for BOTH storytelling AND financial reasons. To claim it's just one or the other is ludicrously short-sighted. The last 2 Potter films suffered from trying to jam too much material into 2.5 hours. Book 7 is far more complex than Books 4 & 5; even 3 hours just wouldn't do it. I applaud WB for giving us 2 movies to get it right. The fact that they will double their money is fair compensation for getting the finale right.

The real reason they're splitting it into two movies is because it's going to take the whole second movie to explain how Harry takes down Voldemort. I always thought that last part were they had to explain it all got a little too complicated.

Yeah, i'm kinda with Kristina on this one. It's clearly crossed the minds at WB (if they can be called as such given the JLA mess) that this will be their last chance to milk the Harry Potter teet. The contract they have with Rowling is iron clad and will forbid any TV series or direct to DVD spin offs (though the theme park is being built right now).

I also think that this will narrow down the director candidates quite a bit. Wb were thinking of making 'Goblet of Fire' into two movies but director Mike Newell persuaded them to make it in one (which some of the fans did not end up liking). Either that will happen again or they will have to get a director to committ to 2 films.

I guess David Yates will want to move on (i thought he might do 'Deathly Hallows' but he won't want to do four Potter films back to back - it would kill him). I can't see Alfonso Cuaron or Del Toro wanting to do it in 2 films either. Maybe i'm wrong though.

Hmm...I think it would benefit the storytelling greatly if they split it in two movies, but if they do I hope they film them back to back. My one problem with this idea is will we have to wait an entire year between the movies to finish the final chapter? That thought is the only part of this idea that bothers me. However, if it means we get the end battle scene laid out in the book it will be worth it.

This is no way money grabbing. I have always thought that even book 4, 5 and 6 should have been split up into two. I'm looking forward to Deathly Hallows movie very much because the book had so many epic action sequences that would work brilliantly on the big screen whereas most of the other Harry Potter books are plot driven with a few action sequences sprinkled in, this one in addition to having tons of plot also has tons of very good action sequences. Deathly Hallows has the potential to be the best HP movie especially if they split it up into two so that they can have each and every action piece in the movie. There is no way they can do justice to Deathly Hallows with a 2.5h movie. I mean there is an epic battle in the end which alone should take up like an hour and fifteen minutes.

I've also read that Warner Bros is considering Spielberg to direct this movie.
