Doug: “Yeah. The movie is called “Bath”. It’s 90 minutes long.”

Saw Cloverfield this afternoon, and my first thought also was ‘aw its a love story’. I was entertained though. Felt the unknown were needed to push and carry the movie. Yes some the dialogue was hooky, but like it not, that how most of that age demographic speaks. Thats how most of those parties are. But I do feel the audience grew to care for the six ensemble cast, especially the characters of marlene and hud. At least that’s how the peeps I went to the movie thought.

Do I feel it was mismarketed? Nope. It worked but filling the theaters on opening weekend.

Here was my friends quote.

“Where Titanic was a love story with a ship; Cloverfield was a love story with a monster. But at least with Titanic, we saw alot more of that ship”

I do also reccomend seeing it in the theaters once. But unlike Titanic, I won’t be going again.

..so does Transformers after 3rd or 4th viewing

Hold on to your seats for a shocker- I’m the exact opposite. The lame gags are still the lame gags, but now I have to finally concede that the FX were indeed the best of last year. I just felt…more impressed. Maybe I didn’t “catch” everything, maybe I was overwhelmed, but I actually enjoyed it more the second time around.

Like Daredevil…not the director’s cut, but the studio cut. Hated it the first time I saw it, warmed up to it after repeated viewings. I know, I don’t mean to blaspheme in here, mentiong Transformers and Daredevil in the same paragraph. My point is…just as it is for some people that second or third viewings are a form of algolagnia…and a sense of brilliant entertainment for others.

I like the video, guys. and Gio should always toast with the cola…but I kind of miss the old round tables. Could Darren Connelly come up on a webcam edited in somewhere? Bruxy on the phone?

And Sharon is in LA and she’s not there!

How bout a DVD review of Sunshine (if not one else mentioned it). It is such a good film that should be seen. Well…unless you guys don’t like it and give it a bad review. Then don’t bother :p

There’s a difference between knowing what a movie is ABOUT and what GENRE the movie is. You can know a movie is an “action” movie, but still have no idea what the plot is or what the story is about.

We knew (or at least we THOUGHT we knew) Cloverfield was going to be a monster movie. But that’s just the genre, it doesn’t actually tell us what the movie is about.

Great show and the video is definitely welcomed. I just had one disagreement with you guys. I think you guys are contradicting your selfs a little because I remember a post before cloverfield came out where you listed reasons why not to be too excited or something like that. In that post you mentioned that no one really knew the plot of the movie and what it was about. Yet now you say that it was advertised as a monster movie and you ended up getting a love story. Well if we didn’t really know what it was about how can you be disappointed when the plot ends up being a love story. I think that we definitely didn’t know what it was really about exactly. We definitely knew there was a monster involved and that drew you in but you were right at first by saying it we didn’t really know what it was about. Other than that great show and I do agree with what you said about cloverfield the second time around.

Hey John,

The Justice League movie should do something similar to what the Halo movie will probably do. Go away for a couple of years, think things over and come back with a completely new direction and a new director. Then this mess of a film could actually be quite good.

I live in the UK and Sunshine came out over here in April last year. Billed as a big sci-fi blockbuster the film is actually a beautiful, emotional character study with some great action in it. I reccomend that all Americans go and see this movie because it is a travesty that it has slipped under the radar for you as it is a brilliant movie. Cheers.
