The story behind “Juno” is better than the actual movie and it seems like “There Will Be Blood” appeals to those who confuse “artifice” with “art”. “Ratatouille” and “No Country For Old Men” are my top two choices of the year.

I saw “There will be Blood” over the weekend and it is sublime. It would be my pick for best picture, best score and Daniel Day Lewis gives the best performance of the year regardless of category. He is so scary good. Wish he worked more.

I loved Juno but it’s not even in the same class with this film. With Blood it’s an example of great filmmakers – at every part of the process and every element of the film, working at the very highest level. It’s beyond mere popular entertainment. There’s true visionaries and artists at work here.

Too bad The Assassination of Jesse James is better than either of these pictures.

And yes Kristina, Juno is fun and delightful. But overhyped is exactly the right word. Why this would be even close to anyone’s top ten is beyond me. That’s not a knock on a person’s taste or the movie itself, I’m surprised that people seem to think it’s the best film of the year (or even close to it).

John, we certainly don’t agree on JUNO (and I managed to see this in September with no expectations/hype attached (i.e. less inclination for back-lash)). I understand why it is appreciated in ‘don’t require too much’ circles though.

What is surprising is that we actually agree on THERE WILL BE BLOOD (agreement between me and you had to happen some day, might as well be on this great film). I liked it for it’s auteur oddball defiance of convention, typical storytelling and knock-out performances and looney-genius score. It’s a sweet cinematic-package. To use the Movie Blog parlance. It’s full ROUTH.

I’m sorry, but after seeing Juno, I fear it is a little overhyped. Maybe my expectations were too high in light of all the glorious reviews it’s been getting, but after I left the theater I was thinking, “That was it?”. It was very entertaining, but it’s not the Second Coming, either. It’s getting more overhyped than Little Miss Sunshine last year.

Sounds like two movies that the regular movie going public will have little to no interest in seeing.

Prediction: This year’s Oscars will continue to have terrible ratings.
