Stallone Wants To Remake Death Wish

It looks like Stallone wants to bring another long silent franchise out of the locker. The winds bring us news today that he desires to remake the Charles Bronson vigilante film Death Wish. We get the scoop this morning from firstshowing:

Stallone recently talked with IGN and told them that he’s interested in remaking the 1974 vigilante film Death Wish, and possibly even writing, directing, and starring (yet again). However, his modernized take “would be volcanic” and “would focus on defense attorneys” and “on [the people] allowing this crap to happen — not so much the guy on the street.”

Whereas the character of Paul Kersey, played by Charles Bronson in the 1974 original, was a completely pacifist man who turns violent after his wife is murdered, Stallone’s version would feature a much different kind of character.

Fuck this shit! Why do I want to see a movie that focuses on defense attorneys? Death Wish rules because it focuses on “the guy on the street,” this doesn’t sound like a remake at all. I think Stallone should just write the film he has in mind, and forget using the name Death Wish altogether.

I am against most remakes and do not see any reason to change my opinion for this one. Stallone can do what he likes with his own franchises and it is cool that he is capping them off; but leave Bronson’s alone (or leave the story as it was if you have to remake it). He needs to branch out now and start doing something new, he is using a crutch as far as I am concerned when he continually brings back tried and true names. Stallone wrote the original Rocky, the guy is talented and should do something fresh. I would be pumped to see another Stallone original of Rocky calibre, we all would; and this is what I think he should do.

Lets take a moment to remember the dude that was Charles Bronson. Yep, he was a black belt in dude. We miss you Bronson.

he’ll be remaking Lock Up or Cobra next. perhaps a Demolition Man prequel. Snipes could use the career boost.

  2. alfie says:

in the original bronsons character Paul Kersey is a peaceful architect who becomes a vigilante after his daughter and wife are brutally attacked…

so if he wants to put a new spin on it why doesn’t stallone have kersey be a vigilante who, sickened by the bland buildings in his neighborhood, becomes an architect???

  3. FunkyMunkey says:

    Sly… please go away.

  4. Grundy says:

Stallone needs to do something more along the lines of Copland, which is, I think one of his best movies.

I’m for Copland 2 – Grundy. Hell yeah. Except this time he wears a hearing aid and he can hear crime before it’s even in progress.

  6. Travis says:

If Stallone needs to make any movie, it’s… OVER THE TOP 2.

  7. alfie says:

Copland is a great great movie and he was completely robbed of awards for it. He is so good in that film…….

For having this idea, Stallone should be forced to shave his ass and run naked backwards through a cornfield. I’m so pissed off…Death Wish is one of my all-time favorites, and for Stallone or anyone to do this just shows that they will do ANYTHING for money. Make your own d@mn movie; don’t call it Death Wish! And FUCK YOU and MGM and whoever had this idea – I’d like to punch you in the face!!!…..and the Bullitt remake starring Brad Pitt…all I can say is one thing…GAY!!!

If Death Wish gets remade, it shouldn’t star someone who just wants to do it for making tons of money. You need an actor that can really transform the role into something the original didn’t do. Maybe even restart a career for someone. My vote would be to cast Ray Liotta or someone like him. A well known actor who can be intense, but has the potential to make the Academy Award folks say, “WOW!”

Do you believe in Jesus? “Yes I do…..” Well your going to meet him. .. Bang bang bang!!!!
