Transformers Heading To The Amusement Park

By John - January 25, 2008 - 11:26 America/Montreal

Transformers-ride.jpgLooks like the most fun film of 2007 is looking to become the most fun time at the amusement park as well. IESB gives us this:

Paramount Studios and Hasbro are in talks to bring Autobots and Decepticons to a lucky amusement park. We have confirmed with a studio source that our tip is indeed accurate. Our original tipster tells us that while it is still very early in the planning stages, Paramount is eyeing the opening of the attraction between Transformers 2 and 3.

What kind of attraction/ride would it be? First lets be very clear that it’s still in the very early stages of planning and Paramount has just started talking with various Los Angeles based engineering firms that specialize with these types of attractions. As of right now it is NOT, and I repeat NOT, a simulator ride in the vein of Star Tours but instead the early concepts are of a “Dark Ride.”

I know what most of you are thinking, “Robert, what the fuck is a Dark Ride?” This is were Wikipedia helps : “A dark ride or darkride is an indoor amusement ride where riders in guided vehicles travel through specially-lit scenes that characteristically contain animation, sounds, music, and other special effects.”

Ok, personally I’m not all that into amusement parks. They’re fun once in a while, but I’ve never been enamored with them the way a lot of my friends are. But sure… put in some kind of attraction where I get to come face to face with some Autobots or Decepticons in an adventure style ride? Hell ya I’m there!

No word at this time where the attraction would be, so we’ll keep an eye on this.

Awesome, they also need a Back To The Future style ride.

  2. How about something along the lines of a “T2:3D” type show?

Only the holograms are 20 to 50 feet high….and Optimus Prime must “defend” the audience/amusement park from a decepticon?

AND the audience rides around in fast moving but controlled ‘cars’ like the Indy Jones attraction … some of which may be ‘transformers’ themselves (with use of holograms)

The big question is…what will people really do in a two hour waiting line?

I’m with Robert. They do need a ride like that. Just show us something more than tilt left, tilt right, tilt forward, tilt back, steam, sparks, loud music, etc..

  4. Jesse says:

I can tell you this… I’ve heard rumors for about 7 months of this exact “ride” at Universal Orlando. They’ve talked about it & people have been super hush, hush.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they opened it at Universal in FL or Hollywood. It’s the perfect combination. Established theme part devoted to Movies & an Amazing Film that deserves an interactive adventure.

If any of you have ever been on “The Mummy” ride at Universal…that is kind of what I expect from a Transformers ride.

But I guess it remains to be seen.

  5. DON says:

This ride should not be in USA. This should be in Dubai or south asian country.

If that happens it will be awesome to see every TF fan in North America’s face to explode in anger.

what would be better than a ride that feels like youre “inside” a transformer while its fighting and moving… Like Optimus or Bumble Bee…

  9. JAMIE says:

    @ THUORN

i kno what would be better- a ride that feels like youre “inside” a transformer while its fighting and moving… Like Barricade or Starscream

  10. GODFATHER says:

Personally, I doubt this ride will make it to Universal, there Jesse, considering it’s a Paramount flick and Paramount owns some parks. Which leads me to think that Canada’s Wonderland would make an ideal park (since Paramount already owns it) and they need a “newer” ride. I’ve also heard that Wonderland will be making a move in the near future, and if that’s the case, this ride could lead to a major “WE’RE NOW HERE” promotion.

I love the ideas about having a TF be the actual “vehicle” riders will be in, but I’d say it’s more likely going to be an Autobot, although it would be totally freakin’ cool if you got to choose which “side” you’re on and ride a vehicle of choice (either Autobot or Decepticon). One thing’s for sure: there’s gonna be a HUGE lineup for this ride!

  11. Kristina says:

Optimus looks mighty uncomfortable in that picture.

And unless the ride involves me getting picked up and talked to by Optimus, not interested. A lot of theme park rides based on films are pretty shitty. I’ve gone to Universal Studios a lot of times for vacations, and I have yet to be impressed by any of those rides. They’re too hokey. Jurassic Park’s ride is decent at best, but Jaws, the recently closed Back to Future ride, and the recently closed E.T. ride are all crap. I shudder to think what they’d do with Transformers.
