James Gandolfini Gets Sexual Healing

By Doug - February 1, 2008 - 15:21 America/Montreal

Marvin Gaye, What's Going OnIt looks like the tragic tale of Marvin Gaye will be spun into a biopic about his life. We get the scoop thanks to our friends at comingsoon:

James Gandolfini will join Jesse L. Martin in the indie feature Sexual Healing, which chronicles the last years of singer Marvin Gaye’s life, says Variety.

Lauren Goodman will direct from a screenplay she based loosely on Steven Turner’s book “Trouble Man.” The story covers the life of Gaye (Martin) from his parting with Motown to his self-imposed exile in Europe and will include his relationship with Freddy Cousaert (Gandolfini), the promoter who guided the singer through the recording of his biggest-selling album, “Midnight Love.”

This dude had some legendary jams and he was killed by his own father. If a movie didn’t get made about him it would be a crime against the art of storytelling. I do not know enough about motown, and I want to remedy that. It will be interesting to follow the progress of this picture, my hope is that it will get a wide release but we will have to wait and see. In the meantime, Ladies and Gentleman I would like to introduce you to the legendary Marvin Gaye:

I’m so happy this movie’s finally getting made. It was announced after the “Rent” film was released in 2005 and people not familiar with Jesse L. Martin’s musical ability quickly signed him on.

He’s absolutely perfect for the role, and I just can’t wait.

One of, if not the greatest singer of all time.
You better not fuck this up.

  3. As an older TMB viewer, I remember when Marvin Gay died my freshman year in high school.

I’m a little disappointed the flik is going to focus on his latter years. Try and find the earlier stuff. Real Deep interesting stuff crescendoing with “Let’s Get It On” and “What’s Going On?”

A funny story.. near the end of his life MG was going through a wretched killer divorce. In fact, his wife was entitled to the majority of the cash from his next single.

He PURPOSELY tried to record the worst single of his career. This turned out to be SEXUAL HEALING, his biggest selling song. Also equally terrible was the video.

    Bummer.

Crackpotpress: Actually, you’re basically right about the “bad record” concept but you’re wrong about which project it was. The “bad on purpose” record was Here, My Dear and was done as a slap-in-the-face to Anna. He was with Jan at the time Midnight Love was in works and although estranged, they were not divorcing.

Trust me, Marvin worked harder on the Belgium stuff than he had on any project post What’s Going On.

IT IS ABOUT TIME THEY MADE A MOVIE. MARVIN IS LOVED STILL BY SO MANY. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MOVIE OUT ABOUT HS LIFE STORY. HE WAS STOLEN FROM US, AND WE DESERVE A MOVIE. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FROM BIRTH TO DEATH. IT BETTER NOT MAKE HIM LOOK BAD, HE WAS A MUSICAL GENIOUS AND A PERSON WITH ISSUES LIKE EVERYBODY. THEY BETTER NOT MAKE HIM LOOK BAD. WHO HAS NOT BEEN IN LOVE AND OUT OF LOVE, WHO HAS NOT HAD ISSUES. HE WAS LOVED. STILL. PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN SOON. NO ONE CROONS LIKE MR. GAYE DID. NEVER WILL THERE BE ANOTHER MARVIN. MARTIN FAVORS MARVIN. THATS A PLUS.

  6. Ama says:

I can’t wait to see this movie. Jesse has been trying to play Marvin Gaye for so long. He looks just like him, he’s an amazing singer, and he’s a fantastic actor who will do a great job with it. Hope everything goes smoothly!
