I've read about Anne Boleyn for 30 years and this is NOT historically accurate. The "love" scenes between Henry and Anne were awful. It was a waste of $7.00 for move and 10 for popcorn and coke. I hated here in the movie and okay maybe I had a little pity with here in the end. And if that was the goal she did it very well.. But I really loved Scarlett' s character... I think she acted very well and that Nathalie Portman could not have don this so good. Mary made me feel pity for here without me thinking she was overreacting.. And Henry has just made a stupid mistake by marrying Anne while he could have had Mary, but that's my opinion off course :) But what more can I say this movie really made me a Scarlett Johannson fan... I also thought all the negative criticism of the film was overboard for sure. hat being said, I am not familiar with the book or the history. I thought Portman was EXCELLENT as Anne Boleyn, and she left everyone in the dust. I was really surprised at how much I dug this, considering all the so-so reviews. I'd had the book sitting around for a long time and when I saw the trailer for this movie it acted as a catalist (as so often happens) to get me to finally read it. I really enjoyed the book, but the more I read, the more concerned I was that the movie would not do it justice, purely based on the time contraints inherent in the medium (it would have to be a 3 hour movie at least to fit it all in). The only saving grace I was hoping to find would be the set design and costumes, but it sounds like even that is dissapointing. I might just wait until it shows up on TBS (sorry, Peachtree TV, now!). Henry VIII, being king, could find sex anywhere....much like a rock star finds groupies. The colors chosen for the costumes may have been beautiful but were unlikely to have been achieved on natural fabrics and synthetics had not yet been invented. Doug, do you think the film would have been better if the roles were reversed and ScarJo was playing Anne? I see her as more of a temptress than Natalie Portman.
