Clint Eastwood Returns To The Screen In Gran Torino

By Doug - March 19, 2008 - 12:49 America/Montreal

TorinoIt looks like big Clint is set to shoot and star in an upcoming picture entitled Gran Torino. The news has been made available thanks to the professionals at Variety:

Clint Eastwood will next direct and star in “Gran Torino” for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures. Pic is skedded for a December release. “Torino” marks the first time Eastwood has appeared on screen since “Million Dollar Baby,” released in late 2004. Details of “Torino” are being kept under tantalizingly tight wraps. Existence of the film, and Eastwood’s role, were only revealed on Tuesday when Warner quietly dated the movie for sometime in December.

Clint Eastwood is a legendary actor that has been able to find appropriate roles for each stage of his life. As much as I enjoy him as a director, I always like to see him playing characters. One of his most memorable performances in fact was in Unforgiven as William Munny. A killing machine tamed by the love of his wife (in life and death) is finally set loose when his friend is murdered and disgraced. The legend of the character is extolled the whole film and finally, when the man erupts from within himself, he throws hell at his enemies and gives the town an education on how legends are made.

We have no idea what Gran Torino is about; all we know is that it shares a name with the famous Starsky and Hutch ride. As soon as the secrecy lets up, we will fill you in on the details.

He’s a much better director than actor. He has earned my attention and interest with consistently interesting top-notch award worthy projects. His track record is impressive – I only wish he wasn’t so old, it means there are fewer years of productive film making ahead for him. “Letters from Iwo Jima” was my #2 film of 2006. Can’t wait.

  2. In front of or behind the camera…when the name “Clint Eastwood” is in the credits anywhere, just go see it. My only hope is that ‘Torino’ isn’t another ‘Pink Cadillic’. That’s all I ask.

This might be a rumour but according to a scooper who’s contacted AICN, Gran Torino marks the return of…DIRTY HARRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This movie will introduce a race that is not really known to the rest of the world. It will have as co-stars, a Hmong family. I know because I am Hmong. Its about a young boy who is asked to steal his neighbors car to be able to be initiated into a gang. There is more to the story but there are more websites out there that will give in full detail. I’m hoping to audition myself. Please enjoy everyone!
