Dermot Mulroney Set To Star In Run For Life

By Doug - March 3, 2008 - 12:42 America/Montreal

DermotIt looks like Dermot Mulroney has landed himself a lead in a film dealing with the shady world of underground organ dealers! We get the story from the moviehole:

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the one-time “Young Gun” (he was the spitter) will headline an action-thriller titled “Run for Life”. Mulroney, whose marriage to fellow actor Catherine Keener recently went bust, will play a district attorney whose daughter contracts a rare illness and needs new lungs. After discovering she’s low on the official U.S. waiting list, he heads to Mexico to buy his way onto their list. But his ethical nature is put to the test when he has to choose between saving hundreds of children being killed for their organs or saving his daughter’s life.

Organ thieves creep the hell out of me. We have all heard stories of people who have woken up in a bathtub full of ice after being drugged unconscious. With 2 slits in your back and a message written on you chest that says “call 9-11″ you know that you have been the victim of kidney thieves. I remember watching a budget horror film as a child about organ farming and even though the movie sucked, I was extremely freaked out knowing that people could be dismantled for parts like an automobile at a chop shop.

I saw a television documentary recently about impoverished people in the Philippines that willingly sell a kidney for about 2000 USD. They sell their guts to rich alcoholics in western nations and receive only a fraction of the profits. This is a truth that is stranger than fiction. To have an organ taken from you is one thing; but to sell it on your own volition because you need the money is a miserable lot indeed.

I would prefer a horror film about this phenomena, but an action-thriller will have to do. No word on when production is set to start, or when the film is scheduled for release – but we will be sure to keep you up to speed. Until then – mind your guts.

Hello, you were in Las Vegas, filming this movie, in fact the last location was three houses down from mine. My stepson and I got to see a little of the filming and you at a distance, I know that sounds corny. I was going to college to go into filming and almost completed my five years to earn my degree, so watching was wonderful for me. Thank you for coming to our little town, I would have liked to have met you, but I didn’t want to bother. anyway thanks again for coming to town.
