We have our first look at the upcoming Ben Stiller war comedy Tropic Thunder today thanks to out friends at cinematical:
Plot outline from IMDB: Through a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying.
The above picture looks like a standard war movie shot, but a few things stand out. The first being that the black man in the middle is Robert Downey Jr. The second thing that leaps out at me is the Ben Stiller gun show. Dude has some fuckin’ arms. I am not sure if he has always had them, and I didn’t notice, but here the guns are out for the world to see – and they are ready for action!
I wouldn’t say this film is on my most anticipated list, my feelings are neutral, but I will certainly check it out when released.

Robert Downey Jr is in this, so I’m there. That guy can crack me up with a mere look. Wish he was the lead instead of Stiller.
Stiller’s been ripped for a few years, at least. It still surprises me when he shows off the cannons, though.

That guy in the middle there is Robert Downey Jr.? Robert Downey Jr. like in Robert “Iron Man” Downey Jr.? As in Robert “Zodiac” Downey Jr? As in Robert “Chaplin” Downey Jr.?
No way. No fucking way. That has to be the best Make-Up job ever. It’s like WHITE CHICKS, but reversed and you know…convincing.
That film just reached a whole other level of interest in me.
Downey going black. Just the moment you thought he couldn’t get any cooler.
This opens a whole new world of acting. If Downey can go black, everybody can. Didn’t you always want to see a black George Clooney? A black Tom Hanks? A chocolate Scarlett Johanson?
Is this the end of the “real” black man in Hollywood? I’m betting Will Smith will have nightmares tonight.

Ben Stiller has always been in very good shape. Go back and watch Zoolander and Dodge Ball again.
I can hear the NAACP tuning up the band for a protest, though. A white guy in blackface has the potential to be EXTREMELY offensive. I love Downey, and I’m interested in seeing this, but I don’t want people being hurt or offended, either.
