It is a shame that the original drama will be made unrecognizable by the altering of the staples of story's cinematic identity. I could understand the placing of the threat to humanity relevant to modern concerns, but basic elements of the story should not change, i.e. Klaatu is Klaatu, the robot/android is Gort, and the craft should appear to be a part of the modern UFO experience.

Bureaucratic problems do not have to be revised. if anything, with the Bush administration, they're far worse. the scientific community, despite the xenophobic Bush administration is still somewhat international. One could have used the replacement for big government, Big Business as the road-block to a global warning about global warming. But the point of this story should still be an ultimatum . Do what you want to yourselves but if you threaten the peace of the cosmos, you're toast. No other message would make this film complete or even recognizable.

After reading the news article I have to say that what they are doing is completely off base and ridiculous. Chark is 100% right, it was an antiwar film. The whole purpose of the alien visit was because we were venturing out into space and we are still a violent race. This was a threat to other species and they felt that if we did not change our ways then they would have no choice but to wipe us out to protect themselves. This makes the aliens nothing short of fascists. "You will change your ways to what we want or else you die!" Does anyone really think that an advanced and enlightened society would use pollution as a justification for genocide? I had no problem with them remaking the movie because it could benefit from a modern production value. I just did not see how they could translate the script. In the original if you remember a sticking point was that Klaatu could not address all the world governments. Today that is a ho-hum and everyday event almost. But this idea is terrible and makes the aliens into genocidal fascists. I am almost at a loss for words on what they are thinking.

Don, you are obviously the new generation they are aiming at - the generation that doesn't like black and white films, the generation that thinks "anything old sucks" and the generation that goes to see any trash the theaters put out nowadays.

I hope you're proud.

The old movie is a huge pile of old crap. I cannot believe you guys want this to be just like the old one.

They are making it for the new generation so let them do their thing. Also i support environment and people who speak for environment. Those who think it is all BS i.e. global warming etc. can go fuck themselves.

Hey Vic, you just holler me if those Fox suits start giving you grief. You gave Jamie a job so i've got your back:) It's about time we issued Fox with a 'Cease Making Shit' notice.

I didn't even know they were already filming it. So there's no way to stop this potential train wreck? That's very depressing.

That was my favorite moment in Battlestar for local recognition.

"That's not a ruined temple! They are just replacing that staircase!"
