Meg Returns?
The giant shark movie may be back on track! We get the following news about Meg’s possible resurrection thanks to our friends at moviehole:
Steve Alten, writer of the giant-Shark book “MEG”, tells The Los Angeles Time (in a terrific article about the movie) that he’s a little disappointed that Hollywood hasn’t been gung-ho to make a movie out of his tale (despite the fact that Disney’s Hollywood Pictures and then New Line Cinema each developed the project but ultimately passed on producing it) – noting that he thought “Meg 4 : Back for More” would be in theaters by now.
New Line said they pulled the plug on the film after two-and-a-half-years of developing it because “The script needed a lot of work; it was very expensive; and we did not choose the director or producers, who were already attached”. But is third time a charm for MEG? Apelles Publishing Inc. of Abington, Va., has optioned the rights from Alten with veteran Hollywood producers Lawrence Gordon (”Die Hard”) and Lloyd Levin (”Boogie Nights”), along with Virginia-based film financing consultant Belle Avery, set to produce. Will the trio be able to get it up this time?
I am pumped about Meg. A film about a giant shark that terrorizes the oceans of the earth is a fable that I will stand in line for. We talked about Meg on the TMB: Uncut a number of times and all of us were excited about this one. We even suggested a sequel to this film: Snakes On A Shark.
I can understand why this project may be running into trouble, whenever water is involved – movies get expensive. If the film ends up costing as much as a Spiderman film, you better hope that you have a shark that will draw at the box office. I will not lie, if the movie is half as good as what I am hoping for – I will probably go 3 times. I love giant animal films, and we need more of them. Giant bats, ants, spiders, geese – who cares, just give me a larger than life animal that turns on humans and I will be tickled.
I will not hold my breath for this project because it still has more hoops to jump through, but I welcome these developments and hoe for the best.

lmao
“snakes on a shark”???
only doug XD
deep blue sea wasnt that good though, in the way that movies are kinda getting a little too CGIish, i mean i love special effects but, i dont know, i didnt watch it 2ce.
hopefully if they do make a megalodon movie it wont be something like that one “boa vs python” movie
I am super excited about this movie, I just reread the first 2 books last month and I still can’t believe this hasn’t been made yet. They are very good.
Then again, it would be quite expensive…
This news is great news. I recall a number of weeks ago, John said on the Now Live in answer to my question “With New Line folding, what does that mean for Meg?”
‘Meg’ isn’t happening anytime soon”
Well, I don’t know if the studio will be WB- but with Larry Gordon and Levin- who have produced several films together, including the Tomb Raider flicks, and the Hellboy flicks- I can see them pulling this off. In fact, both are also on next years ‘Watchmen’.
While I would love it if Jan DeBont was still attached as director…it would not surprise me if another director would be considered. In fact, I’ll make a little prediction…if it *isn’t DeBont…it will be Zack Snyder. The director of the Dawn Of the Dead redo, 300 and Watchmen.
Big ass man eating prehistoric shark.
Chunks of chum, buckets of blood.
Cannot go wrong.
As for giant killer Geese…well, there was killer sheep, why the hell not?

I loved Deep Blue Sea, Jamie. The film never bores me. I thought it was one of Renny Harlin’s better pictures. But I know what you mean: there are a few CGI shark shots in that film which aren’t as convincing as the puppets and animatronic models.
Maybe they can now hire these guys: http://www.flowlines.info/vfxreel01.html
Seriously, how great is that footage?
